Anyone have any experience dealing with a debt settlement lawyer. I was going to declare bankruptcy but my situation has somewhat improved. I have a creditor garnishing my wages for 10K and owe about another 10K in other creditors. If the garnishments stop I can afford to pay everything off in monthly installments and rebuild some credit without having to declare. I just need someone helping me to convince garnishment to stop. Any advice on where to start?

You might be able to get out of the garnishment agreement - that sounds like a POS to me. Contact a debt management firm to discuss an arrangement that will lower your monthly payments. Cash flow is the key - if you can pay your bills every month, everyone will leave you alone. The downside is you have to extend the term of your payments. But a debt management (not debt settlement) firm will help lower your monthly payments, get you on a schedule, and get you out of debt in 60 months or so.

Thank you. I don’t need to lower the amount just need to get everyone off the garnishment train. I was honking of filing two years ago. Got the lawsuits last year and for some reason gsrnishment started year later (2018).

Any advice stopping the garnishment?

I would see if there is a free, non-profit consumer credit Counselling center that can help you.

To pay off your debts blows bankruptcy away how ever long and much it takes. Just do it.

To buy good credit costs.

You don't owe enough to fold.
Counselling is the way out.

There is no incentive for an entity to stop garnishing your wages unless you can offer them a higher monthly (guaranteed) fee than they're getting from you now. There are ways a court can get you out of a garnishment arrangement if you can show that you can't pay necessary living expenses without that money, including food, rent and clothing. The whole matter should already have come to court. Your best bet here is to use a non-profit money management firm, as others have suggested, and don't expect anything to happen quickly. It took us 7 whole years to clear our credit--without even a bankruptcy a default or a foreclosure.
