Everyone knows clozapine has a lot of side effects. It's intolerble for a lot of peple. I've been on it 2.5 years now and it hasn't been so bad with weight which is what most people hate. I've actually lost weight since I started.

I can deal with the Olympic drooling event every night, the constiation, the exhaustion (although we're working on that), etc.

But it just makes me so angry when I have a coughing fit from asthma during the nght and I pee so much my incontinence pad is saturated and my sheets are wet and I'm sleeping on the couch. I'm 42 and not supposed to deal with continence for long time yet but people on clozapine pretty much seem to uniformly have bed wetting to some extent Mostly it's not terrible and my protection works but I drink a LOT of water and so I pee a lot and that can backfire.

Ugh. Thank God for waterproof mattress covers.

I am very sorry you have to deal with this.
It must be very disheartening, to say the least.

When I was on clozapine I wet the bed. I told my doc and he gave me a rx that took all that away. Woke up dry every morning since.

Yuck, that sounds like an unpleasant situation to deal with. Can you try a differnt med or take a med that stops the bed wetting. This is not something that you should just give up on a decide to learn to live with.

Could you try an OTC diuretic, maybe? Like take it a few hours before bed, pee it all out, then go to sleep.

Could try it a couple of nights in a row to see if it works for you. If it does, you can ask your pharmacist about long-term health indications.

That's a sucky side effect to have to deal with. I would talk to the doc about it and see if something can be done. My grandmother won't drink any water after 2 pm so she doesn't have to pee at night, but I don't think that's a healthy way to deal with incontinence.

Now that it's not the middle of the night it's not so bad. I don't have other med options so changing isn't feasible and even if it were I probably wouldn't because nothing has ever worked even 1/100th as well as the clozapine. I'm not willing to stop drinking water because I also drool a ton from the clozapine and the dry mouth would be miserable (plus I'm just a big water drinker, usually a gallon or more per day). I also can't take anything that dries me out because I have pretty big issues with constipation from the meds.

I just get tired of meds not being easy. This side effect is really frustrating but it's not even the worst I've ever had if I'm honest. I just wish that instead of making me sleep so soundly it would let me sleep a nice 8-10 hours and move on with my day.

Ah, makes sense about the constipation. I get that from my meds too.

What about setting a schedule to wake up in the middle of the night? No one wants broken sleep, but if you could go to bed at 9pm (for example) and make it a habit to wake up at 12am to go pee, then maybe the incontinence wouldn't be such a problem?

There are lots of great alarms out there, like ones for the deaf (if you don't wake up from traditional alarms). Vibrations, lights, etc.. All sorts of neat stuff. Even putting your phone underneath your pillow or next to your ear could help if you put on vibrations and alarms. Another thing you could do is set an alarm clock to an AM station with a lot of noise or garbled voices. Set at max volume on a table next to your ear.
