I'm not sure how much is depressed or if it's just guilt and anxiety. But I'm curious if anyone buys more when they are depressed or if it's even possible, or am I in some type of mixed mood. Thoughts??
I still don't know if it's considered a lot I'm spending, but the craving is insatiable. Like I keep thinking up more things to buy. Oh and just forget about taking me to clearance racks. Well, all I know is that about once or twice a year I get like this. Maybe it's just overdue, maybe it's part bipolar, but...

I mean, does anyone else spend in depressed states? Curious of folks' shopping habits, I guess.
Thanks!

I have wanted to spend money while Hypo..... of course.

If I am in a deep depression I have no desire to buy anything or do anything, Nothing would make me happy.

But in the past 9 months I have been in a mess with PTSD I go all over mood wise and there have been a handful of times I HAD to buy something and no amount of reasoning my head made sense to not do it...

When I have gotten this way before I take 20.00 to the everything is a dollar store, Probably not any stuff I really WANT but I leave with a bag full of stuff that can take the edge off..

I also dont have my info saved on like Amazon or Ebay so if I really wanted to spend I would have to fill in the blanks... That can help stop impulse buying.

It happens to me sometimes. I’ll buy something because it distracts me from intense anxiety and makes things seem like they are normal.

Or it makes it seem more hopeful when I desperately need hope.

When I am depressed, I spend. Sometimes it helps, but sometimes it don't. The thing I have noticed was that it was stuff I didn't need.

I am not a shopper... ever. I dislike spending money... it makes me anxious. I return most things if I do make a purchase.

When I want to shop it usually means that my depression is lifting. (Of course when I was manic that was just crazy shopping). For my coming out of depression shopping I try to hit the thrift stores or a lot of times buy used books from Amazon, for just a dollar or two plus shipping. Grocery stores are my downfall under regular times because you have to be there anyway.

^I feel I might agree, that this might be my sign the depression is lifting.
P.s. I've grown to dislike grocery shopping because it's done so much and it's the same stuff all the time. Maybe that's why I'm craving the other types of shopping.

You're definitely right about how boring grocery shopping is, but when I'm in the mood for spending I do things like stock up on bandaids of all different sizes and enough to last for years, and fancy shampoo and sticky notes and special dog treats. I manage to find plenty of things to spend money on.

I do it for what my T calls "the thrill of the hunt." I get some excitement out of it, and that helps break the depression for a little while.

There has been a couple of times where spending money on items that I really have been wanting make me feel better at least for a time. However, with me it is usually a symptom of hypomania.

I’m a spender. I spend most recklessly when I’m manic but I also find that if I’m feeling a lot of anxiety or sometimes even if I’m depressed I’ll shop to try and make myself feel better.

I’m a $$$$ spender especially when manic. That being said I have been a $ spender when trying to pick my mood up.

I guess the mood wasn't lifting. I'm more depressed than ever! doesn't help that I bought the wrong thing or I need to keep buying more things to go with the first thing. *sigh*
