I was in the hospital for 9 days. Major overhaul on my meds. They said to go back if I had any problems this weekend. My thoughts have been racing constantly. They are severe and I feel like pulling my hair out. Any ideas on how to stop them? my pdoc said if they get any worse to go back to the hospital right away. Seems like a stupid reason to go back.

I'm serious. Any ideas to stop the racing thoughts? I could use any advice at all. I'm having such a hard time with this.

Hi 99fairies I’m happy you’re home but concerned you’re still having racing thoughts. I know it’s hard but is there an activity you could focus on today? Maybe an outdoor one? I’ve found going to the local golf driving range helps me focus on one thing and get the other crap out of head even if it’s just for a little while. It takes all my concentration to hit that stupid white ball. Baking bread from scratch I also find helpful. Kneading that dough is therapeutic in a weird way I guess.
Anyway it’s just a couple things I do. I hope you can keep it under control but if not seek help, be safe

Welcome home!

A prn? Listening to music?

A solid meditation practice can definitely help racing thoughts, but it can't happen immediately.

Did your pdoc tell you that a med or meds will take a while before you feel the full effect? I mean, I'm wondering why you're racing thoughts are continuing.

I use Zyprexa as a prn, but it's not helping at all. I've used cbt and meditation, and walking, working out, grounding skills. Nothing is helping. I called my pharmacist and he said it sounds like hypo and said I should got back to the hospital before I got into full on Mania. I'm not at a therapeutic dose of my new AP yet.

I would take the zyprexa at a dose that doesn't give your side effects.
It doesn't sound like they released you stabilized.
I am sorry for this.
Did you tell them of the racing thoughts, I know that you wanted to come home.

I would go back IP if that’s what your pdoc and pharmacist are telling you to do and it’s bothering you this much. Especially if your prn isn’t helping.

I'm so sorry, Fairies. Like bizi said, it sounds like you weren't entirely stable when they released you. Can you speak with your pdoc about the racing thoughts?

I know how much going back sucks, but trust me when I say you got this! You are going to go back in, text me every day, get stabilized and then have an amazing summer.

I will think of more super embarrassing stories to spill to you to make you laugh. No matter what, you are not alone. It is going to be okay.

Your doctors have told you to return to hospital so I think you know what to do. Were you discharged with racing thoughts?
I’ve just come home from ip also. This was for a manic episode. If there had been any evidence of racing thoughts I wouldn’t have been discharged.

So sorry to hear that. I agree, maybe the hospital released you too soon? Not to mention the fact it takes many meds longer than 9 days to work. Does your pdoc have a contact number you can call outside of office hours? I am lucky in that my pdoc gives out his cell phone for emergencies outside of office hours. Or can you wait until Monday and try to get an emergency appointment with your pdoc?

My doctor works at the hospital I go to. He said if my racing thoughts don't get better over the weekend, to go straight back to the hospital. They have just gotten so much worse.

I am going back tomorrow. Probably for another week if these side effects continue to kick my ***. I read up on Reluxi and I have 9 out of 13 side effects. Ridiculous.

I think your smart in going back in.

You might need a different med or just a few more weeks on this one to allow your body to adjust.

Take care of you

Pleased that you’ve chosen to go back in. Don’t let them send you home until you’re ok.
Take care.

I will be looking for a follow-up post from you, fairies. I hope that post will tell us that you are feeling much more stable.
I feel proud of you for going back to the hospital and taking care of yourself.
