Does anyone else experience this? And if so what has helped you get to sleep?
I’m getting worried and don’t need this sleep problem again!

I'm suffering at the moment. I'm getting 2 hours sleep a night in manic though so I guess that's the reason? Have been like this for 2 weeks

I'm sorry you are struggling with this. Here are links to 4 articles, from PsychCentral's archives, that address the subject of bipolar disorder & insomnia. Perhaps something in them can be of some help:

i am the `queen' of insomnia; 72 yr. old female, bp2 (hypomanic no depression) and in my younger years while on low doses of lithium sleep was never an issue; since lithium over 30 yrs. destroyed my thyroid, had parathyroids removed and then kidney issues, i quit it and have not been on a mood stabilizer for a few yrs. tho take 1/2 klonopin for anxiety in the am. but, after much trial and error w/my psych nurse, for me that works almost nightly is 1/2 of 25mg. seroquel plus 15mg. temezepam; tried the seroquel and 10 mg. melatonin which seemed to poop out; 10mg. ambien does almost nothing for me and have tried zzzzzquill w/little results. i'm retired so dealing with the morning drug hangover isn't a problem as i have nowhere to go other than to the health club and my dreams are very vivid. good luck in finding something that works for you. if i don't get 8 hrs. sleep i'm trashed the following day and MUST make up for the lost hrs. the night before; there's no way i can plow thru the next day if i haven't slept well the night before.

Does anyone else experience this...my friend, you have come to the right place.

I sleep in blocks of time, all night, all day....an hour here, a few hours there...I am constantly exhausted and have to structure my life around my sleep.

The only thing that has helped me is...sleeping .

I get up 2-4 times a night, usually. One thing that helps is taking melatonin. It doesn't help me get to sleep, I take unisom for that, but it's proven to help you stay asleep. I was normally waking up 4-5 times a night and now after melatonin at bedtime, I wake up 1-2 times a night.

I got panic attacks on Ambien, Restoril, some other med, didn't work. Benadryl didn't work. Seroqel & Clonidine knock me out pretty good. Before that I took a combo of hydroxyzine & Trazodone to sleep. It worked for awhile, but the dose of Trazodone I needed to work left me feeling like I was hungover until 3-4 PM.

Before trying to conceive, I combined 2 herbal remedies - melatonin & valerian. Can't remember the dosages and only both together before bed worked for me. This is definitely NOT recommended, but if all else fails...Valerian is an extremely stinky herb though. You can get them off Amazon; I'm sure, The Vitamin Shoppe, etc.

I am dealing with insomnia now and have not yet found a viable remedy.
I have tried lots of meds and supplements in the past -- not helpful.

Temazepam worked for awhile, then started to have a paradoxical reaction.

My rheumatologist likes to prescribe clonidine for insomnia, esp. if there is also pain; I become dangerously suicidal on clonidine.

I hope we find relief.

Seroquel plus Clonidine help me for sleep, but the pdoc had to really tinker with the Clonidine dosage. Too much Clonidine, and I got forgetful. Dangerously forgetful like using the drive through ATM at the bank and forgetting my debit card in the ATM (apparently with the PIN still punched in); thnk God the person behinf me was honest and returned the card to the inside of the bank. Also, I started dropping my daughter off at school (that's not unusual; I've always driver her to school) in the morning and start driving away as soon as she got out of the car, before she could even get her lunch or her backpack and binder and shut the car oor. I'm on a much lower dose of Clonidine now, ant it seems to be helping with sleep, but I still have to take it with the Seroquel to get good sleep.

I have found that Zyprexa is the best med for sleep, for me anyway. I can take Trazodone by itself and it doesn't do anything, I can take Geodon by itself or in combination with Trazodone and it only makes me yawn a little bit. But throw Vitamin Z into the mix, and I sleep like a baby. I hate the morning hangover, which is why I was trying to cut back on the nighttime meds, but I hate insomnia even more.

I used to take Seroquel (25mg, though a lot more when I was symptomatic) and that did the trick. But it required me getting an enormous amount of sleep to be able to function the next day and, in any case, I told my pdoc that I didn't want to be taking an AP just to sleep.

So she wanted me to take Trazadone, but that hadn't worked in the past. Then I tried hydroxyzine, which didn't work. And then we tried something else, but I can't remember what it was called. Then, finally, klonopin (1mg) and it's very effective. The problem is that I once again need a great deal of sleep to be able to function the next day. I go to bed very early. So, all and all, what has worked for me has been 25mg of Seroquel and 1mg of klonopin. Best of luck in finding what works for you!
