Blue,
I know this is hard but your grandmother is no larger suffering and that’s a good thing. I know you have memories of her to help comfort you. When my mom’s brother passed away I suggested she go to grief counseling. In our area there was a free program that really helped her.

My dad passed away about a month ago. He was in hospice as well. I'm going through the same sort of grieving process - some sad, some reflective, some acceptance, not much regret. I think when we have time to process a death that is expected, we're in a better position to manage the grief. We also want what is best for the one we love. It was his time - he had done enough.

Thanks for your suggestions, everyone. I sincerely appreciate them.
I will consider grief counseling, although my therapist offered it to me after I called her to cancel my appointment for today. She said I can call her at any time and that she'll be there for me, which was very generous of her. I'll actually be traveling overseas because my grandmother's remains will be transferred to and buried where she was born. It's a very long flight from Boston. I'll be gone for a little while, but at least I'll be with my aunt, uncle, cousins, etc for support. Row Jimmy -- Sorry for your loss and thank you for your sage advice. |

blue, I'm not trying to be discouraging, please know that. Just cautious. Are you sure you're okay to travel so far?

Blue,
I wish you safe travels. I’m sure you know this but be sure to pack enough of your meds. The first time I traveled. My flight was delayed and I ran out of meds. I was lucky because I had a cousin that was a doctor. After that I learned to pack extra meds. You need this closure. We can not live our lives walking on eggshells. You’re a strong young woman and you can do this. Call your therapist if you need to. I’m glad your family will be with you.

I'm not sure it's okay to travel, though. Sometimes travel is the best thing; one or two times...it might not be. (((HUGS)))

You posted this twice. At the end of the day your not her psychiatrist or therapist. I’m not sure by now her therapist would have voiced a concern if she had one.
