Been a long time since I've posted on here. I've been so busy with getting out of the military and moving... I've finally started to feel like I know what's going on in my life after 2 months of being back home in Cali. I'm not sure what I should do right now I see my tendencies starting to creep up and i cant stop it. I hear myself and seeing the things I do but I cant control myself. I'm not sure if my meds are working or if it's just the stress of everything. I felt like I was finally happy, starting to move on from my divorce, being happy with my gf, actually involved in social activities... and now I've just started to self destruct. It's difficult getting appointments with the VA or to even get a doctor for meds, I'll be out of mine by the end of the month and it's going to take at least a month after my therapy appointment next week to see someone for my meds. I'm not sure what to do I've brought it up before and was told theres nothing they can do.

I'm so sorry you're in a difficult position. It sounds like you have gone through a lot of stuff lately. Moving really stresses me out too.

I am so sorry you are having a hard time.

I’m a member of the VA too. What I was told to do was to either show up at the VA emergency room or call the VA crisis line if I was having issues that I couldn’t get resolved immediately.

I know what you mean about them taking their time with appointments. I have to call in 3 weeks in advance... and 2 weeks for meds!

I hope you find this small bit of advice helpful. Good luck. Mike

@hobbithouse i was given a crisis line but the VA in my home town doesnt have an ER. If I had to go I would have to pay to go the regular ER and pay out of pocket. I almost had to go one time for something else and they told me they most likely wouldnt cover the cost.

Yes, the closest VA with a emergency room to me is about an hour and a half away. And that’s with no traffic. You living in Cali... there’s always traffic! Sorry, I wish I could be of more use. Please let us know how things are going.

I use the va clinic so there also is no ER. If I have a bad enough issue I go walk in. Either to the regular Dr for medical issues or the mental health clinic for mental issues. Usually they want you to go through telecast first but since the bus ride for me is 2 hours, I leave before telecast is open. But walk in n telecast are 2 other choices. Also I have gone to the pharmacy med issues n they have helped to work it out w the Drs. I don't know how your clinic works. I m not sure how the patient advocate works. That may also be another option.

Hi Alpha91,

Welcome back!
I am sorry you are having such challenging times. I wish I had a solution to offer; yet, I don't. I hope others offer you some viable answers.

I have an appointment Wednesday that's been set up for a month. I'm going to try and figure out what I can do. I was told last time that the only thing I can get for my mental health is through the VA. They won't let me go the other route because I need to meet specific requirements for extra therapy. Thanks for the advice everyone. I thought the VA would be more help in my town since it's a little bit smaller then a lot of the other towns with a VA clinic. Its so difficult trying to get a hold of my rep

Is your Wednesday appt. for mental or physical? If you're going to run out of meds maybe they can prescribe to cover the gap(?) Like if you brought the bottles with you so they know it's just continuation of already prescribed stuff. Or maybe they have everything (mental and physical) on their computers(?) Sorry I know nothing about VA, just a thought that might work there too(??)

My appointment is just for therapy. I cant talk to a doc for meds until they process the paperwork for a doc in SoCal. I guess that's the closest one who can get me meds that goes through the VA
