So I went into a urgent therapist meeting today and because my suicidal thoughts had gotten worse she recommended I do Day treatment. Has anyone ever done day treatment? How is it?

I’ve done day treatment several times and found it very helpful each time. It’s a good alternative to IP because you get to go home at the end of the day but you still get the closer monitoring of IP. Depending on the level of care you will see a pdoc weekly or bi weekly and depending on the program type you might see a therapist weekly. There will also be lots of groups to learn coping skills. There may even be a process group where you can talk about what’s going on in your life but not all programs do that. Do you know if you will be doing PHP or IOP? PHP is typically the whole day five days a week whereas IOP is typically half the day three to four days a week.

That sounds like PHP they typically have transportation too which is very helpful. What wildflower said, they are helpful and nice cause you get to go home at the end of the day!

I wish I had that service in my area. Would have saved me from full on IP stays here and there.

Closest to me is about 100 miles away

I hope the program helps you!

wildflowerchild's description is pretty much the same as I would have described mine.

PHP/IOPs are helpful not only for what they offer in therapy/coping skills, but as a safe place or a good transition between the hospital and back to the usual. I have been in PHP or IOP many times in the past, most after hospitalizations, but a couple times directly from private psychiatrists or therapists, like your situation. If the PHP/IOP therapist or psychiatrist feels you need a higher level of care, it is easy for them to get you into the hospital, but hopefully that won't be necessary. Hugs
