The sharing on this forum is so great. I have learned more on here than from professionals in 40 years of living w bipolar. Don't misunderstand, we need the professionals.
One thing I have an issue with is that some posts are extremely triggering and many people don't put the red circle warning icon on those triggering posts.
What are the type of posts that you think should definitely have triggering icons?
For me its really long panicky posts with no positives listed. A few times OK, but if you are doing this often and on a regular basis, I think you might consider putting the triggering red dot icon on your posts.
I think anything about suicidal thoughts should have the warning icon.
I suggest anything about self harming should have the warning icon.
If these posts have the red dot icon, readers can skip them on days when they feel most challenged themselves.

Good idea. Maybe we can ask for a reminder at the top of the screen to use the trigger icon. At this point, im not even sure where to look for the info about it.

And/or put it ib a hidden trigger box. (Example only below, contains nothing triggering.)
Possible trigger:

I'm very seldom triggered, but agree it's safest to warn people who might be in a more vulnerable state.

I think the posts that talk about self harm or suicide or scary thoughts need trigger icons and the trigger code thing attached to them.

I don't know how to create a trigger box. I've really got to figure that out.

I'm glad nasty politics rarely shows up here. That's very triggering to me. I had to de-follow two of my aunts on Facebook today.

Something that would help me is if people gave a "preview" of sorts of what they are going to put in a trigger box. If I don't know what's in it, I won't click it, but then I feel bad if it's something I could have offered advice or comfort for.

For example (no actual triggers below). If someone said:

"Blah blah (eating disorder tw)
Possible trigger:
blah blah..."

I would not click on that. But if someone said:

"Blah blah (politics tw)
Possible trigger:
blah blah..."

most of the time I would feel safe to click on that.

Does that make any sense at all lol

I use Tapatalk so icons don’t show.

I often close it out as soon as something hits me sideways.

Even with the icon being used it’s not perfect.... there are still topics that are not allowed on PC

Those I just go to web browser page and report it , hopefully I’m not the first to report it.

If you're not sure whether something is a trigger or not, just put it in a trigger box anyway. Hell, I even saw someone write "what the h*ll" in a trigger box (including the asterisk). I don't think "what the hell" needed to be put in a trigger box, but the person was being conscientious and it's better to be safe than sorry. People don't care if you put something non-triggering in a trigger box anyway.

Though in all honesty, I think giving in-depth sui details isn't appropriate for the forum, trigger box or not. There are some things that shouldn't be posted at all, and that's one of them. There's no need to post that stuff anyway.

Possible trigger:

If you really, really need specific help with something like sui, make a post asking if someone is willing to PM you to talk to you about your specific situation. Obviously you should contact your therapist and/or psychiatrist about it, or even go to the ER, but if you need help and you're too scared to tell a professional, at least tell SOMEONE. Reach out. Preferably a crisis hotline or sui hotline, though. There are chatrooms and texting services with professionals if you search on Google. But one of us members can help point you to one if you don't know about them.

I usually try to reply to the OP in threads if I can.

It’s probably not possible to never trigger anyone but I try not to. I mostly accept people as is.

I find the same topics triggering mostly (su threats in titles etc)

And I can’t take meds

I try to put the trigger icon or box but don't always remember.

And considering everyone has different triggers, it can be difficult. You could get to a point where nearly every post has a trigger icon, and then it because meaningless.

I do agree there are some things that really need the trigger icon/box, but it is hard to know what exactly triggers everyone on this forum.

I've been off and on this forum for almost a couple years. I've only ever felt triggered once and it was the title of the thread that triggered me. It was fixed after I mentioned it. People and mods are pretty good here.

Be sensitive and if someone asks you to modify your post, do so. At least that's how I feel.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
