Hey there.

Im in a crisis and after speaking to my psychotherapist I want to try to get Bupropion at my doctor tomorrow.

Im not on an antidepressant atm and wasnt for over a year.

But I take Lorazepam (Ativan) occasionally when I have strong anxiety/panic attacks to calm down. This works perfect for me and its needed less 5 times a month.

I did some research if these two substances interact or cause effects to ea but as long as Ativan is not a regular medication it seems to b fine.

Does anyone here use both and have experience w this combination?

Thx in advance.

Wellbutrin may increase your anxiety for a while.

I recommend you ask your question to your psychiatrist. He/she will know if any interactions are significant and if Wellbutrin is a possible help to you. Beware of therapists (including psychologists) giving medication recommendations or criticisms. I'm sure those that do sometimes have good ideas/intentions about such things, but they are not usually qualified to make such recommendations. I've encountered some psychologists who wish they were psychiatrists, but weren't.

I take some medications that have "interactions" with each other, but again, certain interactions are not deal breakers in terms of taking together. It sort of depends on the type of interaction.

I may have taken Wellbutrin XR with Ativan at one point. I think I may have. I know I took Wellbutrin XR with Klonopin. At the time, I also took Lithium and Geodon. I don't know if they had any interaction. I sure would hope that if they did have a negative interaction that my doctor and/or pharmacist would have said something. But then again, waiting for them to say something doesn't mean you shouldn't ask the question "Do they have an interaction I should be concerned about?"

I was unable to take Wellbutrin XR for more than a week or so. It was destabilizing for me. But many people with bipolar disorder take it with success, I believe. We're all different.
Thanks for this!

Do you have bipolar? I ask because you don't seem to have a mood stabilizer on board. It could be trouble just adding an anti-depressant without one. I have taken Wellbutrin and have done well with it, but Guiness is right that it can increase anxiety for some people.

I also take xanax PRN (as needed, which in my case is *maybe* a time or two a week), which is related to Ativan and have had no problems with that combo.

Is your doctor a regular PCP? If so, he may not be well-versed in the need for a mood stabilizer in bipolar med regimens. Which is one reason I bring it up. When initially (mis)diagnosed, my PCP went the AD only route and it caused me bigtime problems. I did have xanax, but that did not prevent them. I'd hate for you to go through that.

I'm sorry you're in crisis, and hope you and your doctor can relieve that soon.
Thanks for this!

Wellbutrin raised my anxiety level to an intolerable degree, but everyone is different.

Thx for the answers and suggestions.

I do ask this questions here bc I never just go w what my docs say.

I listen very much to them but especially when it comes to medication or surgery I will do a completly independent research and then I will decide what I want to do with it.

Thats the reason why I ask for real life experience bc I know that combinations can be problematic for one but work very well for another person.

I already had paradox effects w some meds for myself.

I was diagnosed w bipolarity and on my way through institutions w a lot of other things. I feel pretty aware of my mindstate (most of the time ) as well as symptoms, behaviour/thinking patterns, mood changes/drops and effects of meds when I take it.

Im saying this just to point out that its not a wild idea out of nowhere to take med for a while and that there was put some thoughts in what kind of med could probably help rn.

If it creates weird effects there can be things added we also already thought about.

I was taking different kinds of meds for some years, had to stop taking them begining of the year. W/o I was doing better for quit a long time and I was able to handle my **** on my own.

Now some things turned problematic again and I want to try a short/mid-term medication again, just to get out of the cycle I have atm.

I started wellbutrin recently. It does raise anxiety a bit, mostly at a physical level not a mental. I also use ativan with it. Proc said use the ativan to get past the anxiety for few first weeks. I took it rarely and by second week i had no anxiety to need for the Ativan.
I could understand people saying wellbutrin gives you insomnia but i use an AP called Remeron before bed and it Really knocks me out.
p.s. i was already taking ativan ,before the wellbutrin,a few times a month for last two years already
Also keep in mind im on lithium as a mood stabalizer

Will u tell which?

I used low dose Gabapentin as a mood stabilizer last year. Worked for me and had good effects against my anxiety.

Didnt use Valproat up to now but w Wellbutrin it seems to be one of the most common combinations.

Both are options for me.
