Anyone here affected by the fires in California?

I was on Facebook recently and saw one of my high school classmates who had moved to California lost her house in the Camp Fire. It sounds like she knew there would be a possible evacuation near her home and took her dogs and some mementos when she left for work, but it seemed so surreal to her, like something that wouldn't possibly happen for real, that that was all she took with her and now has nothing left, though she is grateful she left that morning with her furbabies. So sad the number of people affected

Anyone here affected or have friends or relatives in one of the fire zones?

Yes, I have some friends affected by the smoke, including one who has asthma and it is really concerning that it can cause him to have exacerbations. I worry about him. No one that I know of that has had to evacuate.

Yes, terribly affected! I wish more people would check other boards besides just the popular boards.

Yeah, the air here is horrible, but it's just because we're downwind of the blaze. The fire isn't actually threatening us. We know people here who have family there who've lost everything. Even worse, 25 people have died.

Sadly fires are really getting to be the norm in California. Im an hour from that fire but i was 2 miles from the Holy fire back in August and was nerve racking even being that far away. From my backyard i watched flames that seemed hundreds of feet high ravage Saddleback mountain. I cant even fathom being danger close and having to evac )

Wow, with as fast as the fire can travel with the winds I would feel too close at 2 miles.

—-Laurie, I came on the forum today to see if you were all right.
You went thru so much w the last round of fires.
Message me if it could ever be at all practical for you to take shelter at my house in Phoenix when the fires roll thru. I have a small neutered female kitty. My son has horrible cat allergies but yours could bunk in our garage.
I know this may be a stretch, but in times of trouble we have to be creative and stick together. Maybe a friend on here. could take yr cats for a time.
Hang in there!

I just learned yesterday from my brother that my niece used to work at the hospital in Paradise up until it burned down. Now she's looking for a new job. She lives in Chico, though, so she still has her home. She went into a friend/colleague's house to save their dog - the house was already burning.

Also, the Gores, friends of ours and parents of former students of mine, got trapped as they were driving out. They abandoned their car and hiked down into a river canyon and followed the canyon out of the fire zone.

My wife's aunt and uncle have lost their home. Another extended family member, I'm not sure of the relation, lost her house, too.

...but as far as I know, all our connections up there are still alive, so that's good.

Thanks for the suggestions and for such kind offers. If I had the money I would take my cats and so be out of here. No, I have no where to leave them and I won't do so, because that would be even worse for me and for them than this is. The stress of living with this day after day after day is horrendous. My windows are so filthy from smoke, but there's no point in cleaning them, just to have them filthy again. The dirty windows make seeing anything that much more difficult.

Another day of the eerie pale-orange-brown light, the stink of smoke, this depression that no medication can take away and that no therapy can relieve. Of course, I don't think therapy would help; since my t has been out sick for 2 weeks, how can I really know.

On top of it all, the damn*ed mail delivery is messed up, so I cannot receive stuff I have ordered or need. In addition, my POS TV service is down (nothing to do with the fires; the cable company just wants me to pay, pay, pay for a blank screen - literally, I cannot have the TV service stopped with losing internet. Such a racket, hey?). I hardly watch TV, but I do turn it on sometimes just to hear human voices.

Ugh. I'm sorry to sound so down. I feel terribly discouraged.

Thank you all, so much. Each one of you is helping me keep my head up. Just went to the grocery store, my God, it looks like a funeral gathering. Everyone so discouraged. And sick from the air.

Sorry to hear that. That sounds rough.

I heard on Boston 25 News last night that many Massachusetts fire stations have firefighters offering to visit California for backup. I hope they do go because it sounds like California just doesn't have enough people/resources to fight the fires and they need all the help they can get.

I don't know about other states offering to help, but I'm just letting you know that people even across the country DO care and want to help. The fact Massachusetts is willing to go to the exact opposite side of the country and risk their lives is AMAZING. You have full support from us in the northeast.

Just thought I'd pass that positive news along.

What a kind post, blue. As always, thank you for your friendship. Lack of resources is a HUGE problem. Only so many firefighters, etc. can be pulled from towns because, of course, the towns might need them.

Thank you for sharing such loving support.

An update: These Fires. Please, We Need Help, Prayers, Anything

Fortunately, I've heard that Martin Sheen was found wandering along the beach, poor man. Very single person affected by this devastation has his or her own pain to cope with. Not one of us is exempt.

Found out H's cousin had moved to Paradise, CA and has lost everything, just he & his wife made it out with the clothes on their backs. They even lost their dog as the dog ran away while they were getting ready to leave and there was no time to chase it down.
