So my Pdoc prescribed adderall xr for me. I am not ADHD. He thinks it will help with mood and energy, make me feel uplifted. I have taken it for a few days but I think it is making me feel like my heart is going to explode and that I do not feel good. Plus it is causing anxiety because of the way I feel. I try to relax but I just can not.

Has anyone else taken it what I call off label?
Does it get better?

I am sorry you are having this experience. Please be careful with Adderall.

My pdoc had also prescribed this for mood and for energy. It made my heart beat fast, made me clench my jaw, made anxiety and agitation worse. I never felt good on it. In fact, I had felt pretty bad.

If it's not working for you and/or is making you worse, please let your pdoc know. Personally, if it makes you feel worse, you may want to stop it and contact your pdoc. I do not usually suggest this, but I know that heart-exploding feeling from certain stimulants and it's horrible!

Please take good care of yourself.

Sorry you're going through this.

I haven't tried Adderall so I can't comment on how it feels but it sounds like you're taking it for depression.

I'm taking Modafinil and it started to work for me after about a month.

The nice thing about it is that I don't have the effects you describe yet it's also a stimulant. It's a really subtle effect. Might be worth considering.

((((eye2797)))) I'm sorry you're struggling with this med. If it's affecting your heart, I'd contact your Pdoc as soon as possible.

id just stop taking it and call the prescriber. not to scare you, but there are occasional cases of people dying from heart troubles from moderate doses of legally prescribed stimulants. again; not trying to scare you, but one good thing about amphetamines is that one can stop them without a taper, usually, and they get out of the system fairly quickly.

good luck to you.

oh, and...ritalin, focalin, provigil, nuvigil....they're also stimulants, and they might be of some help to you, if that's the direction you and your doctor want to go with your treatment.

I'm on it, pdoc says I have ADHD, but I really think it's lack of concentration from bipolar, the meds I'm on, and anxiety. I really don't think I have ADHD, so in my belief, I'm using it off-label. He said, well, at any rate, see if it helps with my energy & concentration. For me, it does. I can finally read a book again. But I don't have those feelings you are describing, especially not with my heart.

True, I have panic disorder & high anxiety and panic attacks, but they are pretty much the same as before the Adderall. I really haven't noticed much difference with my anxiety on Adderall.

You should call your pdoc and see about getting off Adderall or if he wants you on it, taking a lower dose if possible? Has he tried you on Wellbutrin to see if that would help with energy? It's not as fast-acting as the Adderall and can cause similar symptoms, but it seems a lot of BP people tolerate Wellbutrin better than Adderall, and Wellbutrin tends to have few or no withdrawal side effects for most people.

One time, I did double take my morning meds by accident, which included Adderall and Wellbutrin. I was practically bouncing off the walls all day, just over-energetic, talking a lot, lots of projects, manicky type stuff, and still didn't have extra issues with my heart or even panic. But the next day, I was back to normal again.

I take Adderall off-label to stay awake during the day. I don't have ADHD. I've had positive effects from it in terms of energy and mood. If it's not helping you, you should let your pdoc know.

I did speak to Pdoc and he would like me to try just IR at a low dose of 12.5 or 15 which I do have. I have tried the 12.5 for two days and it does help me get up in the morning and out of bed which is my hardest time when dealing with low energy and such. It does seem to be helping with the heart issues at a lower dose but I still feel it at times. So I will give it a few more days and see how it goes.
It is not worth feeling this way.
Thanks to everyone for the responses and support. It is nice to have you guys around.

I hope it helps. I think the IR lasts a lot shorter, 4-6 hours? and the XR around 12 hours. Hopefully, you just need a boost in the morning to get going, the way tons of people can get moving without coffee.
