My husband cancelled the trip saying he understands how hard Christmas is on me (which is true--we have always been with his family at Christmas and I have spent Christmas with my dad/siblings only 2 or 3 times during our 31 year marriage). I hope we can see his mother on a three day weekend but I can't bear having my children so far away as well. I appreciate how kind he is being about the whole situation.

It’s not so much the holidays themselves but more the increase in hostility from other people and inconveniences that normally don’t happen the rest of the year.

I can remember Christmases past where people have been very aggressive in parking lots with few spaces. I am one of those--you go first drivers but after multiple people have zoomed into a spot that I was waiting for my manners start going out the door.
