I have 3 inner voices, my own, Amy, and a sassy african american woman who has no name. The concern i have is "Amy" is more than an inner voice. She is all my negativity about myself personafied and she has "taken over" before. When she takes over its her but also myself. Im completely aware of whats happening, and almost feel im in control, but my actions, personality and speech is driven by Amy. She hasnt come out in a while but i wanted to know is this an alter ego or what is this? It's always concerned me since i have no idea what it is.

Disassociative identity disorder... DID

I’m no professional and can’t diagnose but it’s called having a “Alter” sounds like Amy is yours.

Some doctors believe in alters some don’t

Best thing is to see a psychiatrist and a Therapist to learn coping skills and examine your possible alter(s)

There is a forum here on PC about DID

I agree with the above. Have you told your psychiatrist? Sounds like DID to me too.

((((PandaPrincess)))) Yeah, it sounds like you have DID. Do you see a therapist? I recommend seeing a Pdoc as soon as possible

Hello PandaPrincess: I noticed this is your first post here on PC. So I thought I would say welcome to PsychCentral.

Of course, as others have already mentioned, only a mental health professional can diagnose you. However based on what you wrote one forum, here on PC, you may want to check out is the dissociative disorders forum. Here's a link just in case you haven't already found it:

https://forums.psychcentral.com/dissociative-disorders/

And then here are links to 5 articles, from PsychCentral's archives, on the subject of dissociative disorders:

What is Dissociation & Multiple Personality Disorder?

In-Depth: Understanding Dissociative Disorders

Dissociative Disorder: 8 Common Signs | Relationship Corner

Dispelling Myths about Dissociative Identity Disorder

I hope you find PC to be of benefit.
