I used to love flying when I was younger and have flown many times since. Lately I have developed a fear of flying any tips besides xanax? Which I have to help if needed.

Just remember...you're safer in the air than on the ground.

Guiness, what piggy momma wrote is absolutely true compared to being in or driving a car, and yet we all get into cars most every day without a fear in the world, despite, people text messaging while driving. They still drive recklessly. Too many people still drive when they've had too much to drink. Truly, the odds of death in a car are significantly higher than death from a plane crash. Significantly.

I don't hate the flying in airplanes, but I do hate airports, airport delays, long lines in security, customs, waiting for stupid buses to transport you from the terminal to terminal or rental car joints, the discomfort of the seats in the airplane, the inability to move around, the difficulty falling asleep sitting up on an uncomfortable chair, crying babies in airplanes, and things like that. If I had a private plane (Yeh, right!) most of these issues would disappear. I will say that I've had the luck of my husband and I being bumped up to first class a few times. That was nice! However, my husband generally falls asleep in the first few minutes and sleeps for hours, so I have no one to talk to unless I talk to strangers.

I do not mind it. It is quicker than driving. I do xanax and tummy meds. I also make sure I have music and a game to play that I really enjoy. Where I am at and fly to, my airports are small. I do travel to Florida quite a bit but I fly into small airports. If I can avoid big ones I do by all means.

I hate it, but not because of a fear or anything. All the security measures makes it take forever, and if you have to go through one of the large airports, like LAX, it sucks.

I remember flying to Europe in 1995, before Sept. 11. And I flew to Canada in 2000, super easy, no passports even required (to see Niagra Falls). It was so much easier back then.

Now, it's just a mess. We took to driving from Houston to Los Angeles to see my in-laws (about a 2.5 day trip, stopping for sleep at hotels). Actually, the desert scenery is pretty nice, and we'd do things like veer off the route to see Carlsbad Caverns or the Grand Canyon, even the caves in Sonora, TX which while Carlsbad is more about size, you are very, very close to all the formations in Sonora. Driving and flying cost about the same in the end.

H had it the last time we flew. Our daughter was a toddler, maybe 2. It was winter, but with her personality, she wouldn't wear socks anyway. She had on sandals, no socks, and security at LAX demanded she take off her shoes. The floor was cold, and she did not want to take off her shoes, was screaming bloody murder. That was pretty much the end of flying for us.

I'm sorry you have a fear of it. Will your pdoc give you Xanax for flying, or is it that you have to fly a lot or just would rather not take Xanax?

I have plenty of xanax but have to rent a car after the flight and would rather not take the amount that I would have too to stay calm.

Flying was fun back in the day.
I used to fly from PR to NYC five times a week.
Plains were half empty. I slept thru it. Or smoked my lungs out.
The flight attendants knew me well. And I new a few very well too.
They woke me up for dinner, knowing I'll ask for a second tray right away.
Three seats and two trays wasn't that bad for fifty bucks.
I always bought 20 tickets at the time. 1k no tax.
With customers like me, no wonder Eastern went belly up.

Ah, sleep, food, and some romance in between. The life!!!.

My last flight was to Hawaii. From Miami.
A little longer that I would have like it.

Thanks to The Higher Power, I learned to mix flavorless, odorless, vaporless eLiquid.
I vaped in my seat most of the time. Nobody cares what an old fart is doing.
Needless to say it doesn't turn the alarm on in the bathroom either.

However, it was too long. Almost twenty hours from Honolulu to Miami with three lay overs. And the jetlag, ah.
But worth every effort.
I saw the most beautiful island I've and will ever see. Kawai.

Sometimes, it's not the trip, but the destination.

Cheers.

I usd to love it but I don’t anymore. I usually cry quietly so nobody is aware of my distress during take off. In flight the only thing that gets me through it is movies movies movies!

I have never cared for it even when I flew a lot. I usually kept it to myself out of embarrassment, but white knuckles on the arm rest busted me with coworkers a few times. I was surprised how many frequent flyers would open up to me about their fears when they noticed mine. It doesn't help that I have experienced an aborted landing when a wind gust tilted the plane to one side really low to the ground and another time a hard landing that popped open a lot of overhead bins and spilled stuff into the aisle. People screamed during that hard landing; we are far from alone in our fear. As one frequent flyer explained to me, the more you fly the more you get used to it, but at the same time your fear becomes more rational because of flying so much.
