I met with tdoc today and she pointed out that I was moving around a lot in my seat and forgetting what I was talking about. I also made some huge life decisions like deciding to try to get pregnant soon and move back east. I'm also having trouble falling asleep.

These are classic red flag hypomanic symptoms for me. Should I ride it out or reach out to pdoc?

Hi Franz. Only you know if getting pregnant and moving back East is abnormal. There are many people who are wanting to do the same thing. Are you married? That might answer whether getting pregnant is a rational thought, but then again many single women get pregnant all the time without marriage. Can you afford a kid? Are you well enough right now to be adding an extra responsibility to your life?

Anyway, your tdoc expressed a concern. That is a red flag. So is the sleep issue. Perhaps consider giving your pdoc a ring. They may also know well if your thinking is slightly dysfunctional. If I told my psychiatrist I was trying to get pregnant soon he'd likely hospitalize me. That's meant to be a joke, but actually isn't really.
Thanks for this!

I would reach out. You clearly know what your signs are and are concerned enough to ask whether you should. I recently reached out to my pdoc due to hypomania and got some med advice I wasn't expecting which was good and helpful. They might have something helpful to say.

Those are some major life altering decisions. I would sit with them for a while. Maybe a few months. You've had several serious episodes since spring of this year. A few were psychotic. One was depressive. It makes sense you would now be on an upswing.

I would wait to see if you cycle again. I'd want to have a baby and make a move when I've had a good run of stability. Each of those events are quite stressful on their own, not to mention tackling both at the same time. Will this be your first child? Children are wonderful, but they are huge sleep disruptors and they change your schedule completely. You would benefit from support during that time. Do you have family back east?

Reach out for objective input. Better safe than sorry.

Go to your doctor. I didn't last time, and I got stuck in some rapid cycling.
