Merry Christmas everybody!
I wonder if there have been experiences, successful or not, of managing Zyprexa-induced weight gain by adding Wellbutrin. I am treatment-resistant and Zyprexa is the only thing that helps - but it helps almost like a miracle, making me highly functional. It even helps with chronic migraines. The trouble is weight gain. I take 7.5 mg of Zyprexa and now am adding 150 mg of Wellbutrin.

I hope it is helpful for you. I agree that Zyprexa can be a very effective medication. As for Wellbutrin helping you lose weight, you won't know until you try it. I don't believe it will add to weight gain.

In the beginning Welbutrin curbed my appetite.

Wellbutrin is half of the newer weight loss drug called Contrave. The other half is naltrexone, an anti-addiction drug. The theory is that naltrexone curbs your cravings, while bupropion decreases appetitite. After 56 weeks the average weight loss was 12lbs, with diet and exercise. (A quarter quit taking it because of the side effects.) Make of that what you will. I've never tried it but when I first started taking Wellbutrin it did curb my appetite. That wore off even when I increased my dose.

My problem with this approach is that I do not have cravings - I have physical hunger pangs that are felt like cramps in the stomach area. But I do have Naltrexone so I can try the combo. Thank you for the suggestion.
