The last few weeks have been brutal- no energy or desire to do anything. Get up and walk the dog and that's about it. I felt so much better on zoloft but had a manic episode so they don't want me to take that anymore. Any suggestions for an anti depressant that is safe for bipolar? I am on zyprexa and valproate now.

I hate to be the one to say it. But given your current situation I'm going to guess that you're not eating foods in high fiber and protein. Also let's also assume that you're not drinking enough water to maintain healthy kidneys.

All this matters. It's always best to try. If you're still meh.. the next day do something completely random. It might just be a little step, but it will shock your senses silly.

Zyprexa made me sleep to much. Lost 10 years of my life doing Jack ****.
Thanks for this!

I'm on zyprexa and valproate and also remeron/mirtazapine which is an antidepressant. I don't know if it's helped yet but it hasn't triggered mania. Another one I hear is good for bipolar depression is wellbutrin; it seems like a lot of people here are on it.
Thanks for this!

I spent two years in bed like this. Only went to work. It was horrible and even had a four month gap that I didn’t do laundry and my place was filled in clutter. Went to iop last year and it helped give me a nudge.

My meds stayed the same but it was so fn hard just to take a shower. Guess what I’m trying to say, also use talk therapy and a lot of it. Helped me

You are correct, my diet has been nil and def not drinking enough water. Thanks for the reminder- that is important.

I'm sorry you feel so bad. I'm also wondering if it might be seasonal affective disorder because it's winter. I'm willing to bet you're low in Vitamin D. Maybe get some bloodwork done and then start taking supplements.

Zyprexa is heavy duty. Maybe your dose needs to be adjusted. I've been on it since my last episode and I swear it takes the life out of me. I was given the option to switch Ap's or add an antidepressant. Well, she decided adding an ad was a better option atm. Anyways 2 days in and I've gotten up much earlier and feel a bit more energized. Not manic. Not as low. I guess the idea is that with an ap and a mood stabilizer in the mix that should keep you in check.
We shouldn't have to settle for sleeping 12+ a day and having no life just so we don't go manic. Keep fighting
Thanks for this!

I am glad talk therapy has worked for you!
I don't like talking, so talk therapy is ridiculous for me. Plus I firmly feel that the best person to talk to is someone that has actually experience depression.
I hope you don't feel quite so lonely.
