It's been a few weeks since being put on Depakote, Trileptal, and Zyprexa. Nothing happened at first but now I'm sleeping a lot (12-14 hrs a day). Idk if this is from the meds or depression, although I have energy once I actually get out of bed and shower and such.

Trileptal and Zyprexa are both sedating so it wouldn't be surprising to be sleeping a great deal while on that combo, or that it would take awhile for the full effects to kick in. What doses of these are you taking? All at night?

I can't speak for your situation, though I have taken all three of the meds you mentioned (though not together), but yes. I had about 4 years of no side effects on Geodon before akathisia kicked in...bad. I had various side effects on Lithium that kicked in at different times. A couple eased, the rest didn't. Etc, etc. But I will say that with dosage adjustments some side effects eased or developed. Issuing a fatwa on a medication prematurely or without fiddling by your psychiatrist can sometimes be a pity and a loss.

Yes, moods affect our sleep and energy levels. Yes, sometimes increased doses of medications do. Which is the culprit? Sometimes one, sometimes both, sometimes neither. There are other things sometimes that cause certain changes in the way we feel. What the answer(s) is/are need to be determined. Heck, it could be the weather, stress levels, low vitamin D, low thyroid levels, hormones, a cold coming on, iron deficiency, the the time of year, the fullness of the moon or other environmental factors, or something else.

I've been on a few meds in my time that are sedating. My Seroquel XR is a bit sedating. The ways it took to get relief from them have varied. Strategies were eventually figured out, or in a couple cases particular meds were eliminated/substituted.

I have taken Depakote before, I know it helped me but I got off it and switched to Trileptal several years ago due to the weight gain. I take 1200 mg of Trileptal and I've definitely experienced drowsiness from it. When my dose was upped to 1200 from 900 I probably slept anywhere from 12 to 16 hours a night, which is strange because I've been on many supposedly sedating medications and they never really made me very tired.

Anyway, the extreme drowsiness and excessive sleeping eventually went away

Yes, side effects may not show up for several week. For example, there was one med, Abilify, that started to make my body shake well over a month since my last dosage increase.

I'm on zyprexa and can't get out of bed either. 12+ hours a day. Its been like this for over a year and I'm getting tired of it. Imo the zyprexa is probably the culprit. Its very sedating and older AP. I was given the option to switch to a newer ap. But I didn't want to change since zyprexa works so well at keeping mania away and help sleeping.

Yes, I believe it is possible, spikes. Side effects could start to show up much later since you've started taking meds. That's why it's important to be careful and always check ourselves. If you're worried about it, I'd suggest to talk about this to your Pdoc and see how it goes from there. Maybe that could help. I hope you'll be able to find the right meds combination for you. Feel free to PM me anytime. Let me know if I can do something to help you. Wish you good luck! Let us know how it goes. Sending many hugs to you
