Hi,

My name is Theresa and I am so glad to have found this online support group. I had nowhere to go and I no longer have my family due to my instability. For the past 20 years I've been seeing one Psychiatrist after another and so many therapists and have always been diagnosed with Depression. A couple months ago I went to see a new Doctor because my insurance changed and she actually diagnosed me with Bipolar Depression and put me on different types of medications I've never taken before and they seem to be helping a little bit better than the SSRI's I've been taking for 20 years. I'm still new to these medications and I really hope they help me. Living like this is torture. Going from one extreme to another is a horrible way to live. I never know how each day will be. I can't seem to get the depression and anxiety under control so hopefully I will find something that helps.

My family doesn't want anything to do with me anymore because they didn't want to deal with my mood swings and depression. It's a very lonely life when you don't have the support that is needed when you are suffering.
Thank you for listening.

Heya, welcome.

I'm sorry your family is not more supportive. Perhaps they will come round with time. We can hope, right?

Hi Theresa,

Welcome to PC and to the Bipolar Forum.

I, too, had been diagnosed with severe atypical depression for many years. In time, my diagnosis was changed to Bipolar Depression. I am very sorry you are without family support. This must be very difficult. Have you looked for a IRL support group in your area?

I hope you will find the information and the support you may be seeking.
Please do jump in and make yourself at home.

I hope to see you around the forums.

WC

I'm so sorry you're struggling, tmg4me I'm sorry that it took so long to get a proper diagnosis. Unfortunately Depression and Bipolar can be confused, although it's weird that so many doctors failed to catch up with it. I'm glad you've been able to find the right meds combination for you! I hope it will help a bit. I'm so sorry you're feeling lonely. Please don't give up. If it can help a bit... we're here for you. We'll listen to what you have to say. We care about you. I know it's not the same thing as having a support system IRL, but at least it's something. Try to hang on. You can do this! You're strong, I know that. I believe in you. Feel free to vent here as much as you want. We'll listen to what you have to say and won't judge you. I'm here for you as well. Feel free to PM me anytime. Let me know if I can do something to help you. Wish you good luck! Let us know how it goes. I'm so sorry you have to deal with this

Thank you for your caring post. Everyone seems very supportive and caring. Life is hard to begin with but when you are struggling with Bipolar Depression it makes everything in life so much harder and it's worse suffering alone. Having support is very important.

Hi,
I found that I have different friends for different needs. There are people in my life who are my rocks as far as bipolar support goes and friends I just goof off with. I can't honestly fault anyone for not "getting it". But I did come to the realization that the best people to bond with sometimes are those who have experienced it. This is a great forum to express yourself and get useful feedback. Just one person can be the most amazing ally. Take care of yourself.
