So, I haven’t bought new dishes in over 20 years. I did buy a set of Royal Albert Country Roses chinaware after my divorce in 2008, but it sits unused in a china cabinet, and that makes me sad. I thought about bringing it out and making it my everyday dishes, but my husband is seriously a bull in a china shop, and he does the cooking. I decided to look at Corelle Dish sets, and I found a beautiful pattern, Summer Blush. It’s gorgeous! and it’s a retired pattern, so I went on eBay and found a set. I decided to get really pretty drinking glasses and coffee mugs that matched the colors of the flowers in the pattern. I didn’t want my husband to feel left out, so I got him a new set of pots and pans and kitchen utensils. He is a happy camper, too.

That is really pretty. I need to find new dishes sometime soon. I had Corelle before and was amazed at the strength. I even dropped a cup on pavement while moving and it didn't break. The dishes I have now break easily even though they look like they should be sturdy. Between my cats and I've lost a lot of bowls. Maybe Corelle time again. I never thought to look for a retired pattern when none matched my house the last time I looked. Thanks for the good idea.

I'm a bull in a china shop too. Corelle works well for me.

My only pretty dishes are my fancy glasses for drinking. Its hard now because I am trying not to drink and I dont feel good about drinking anything other than alcohol out of them, still too fresh I think. They are mercury glass that my grandparents handed down to me and I love them.

Other than that I have mismatched dishes that were all given to me from various people. None that I love, just didnt have money to buy anything for myself. Perhaps buying some regular dishes I like would make my kitchen a little happier again.

I think I will see what I can find and save up, thanks for the idea and Im glad you love your new dishes!

I’ve had the same dishes for 15 years , bought them from BigLots 15 years ago , a dollar a plate and 75 cent a piece for matching small plate, bowl and same set of drinking glasses LOL

Sure I see pretty sets and have considered tossing mine for new but hell we never have company, just the kids if they come up.

Maybe one day.

Enjoy your new set

I am so happy for you and your husband!

I am embarrassed to admit that much of my plates are older than me, from my wedding (16 years ago), or hand me downs from my Mum when she go new saucepans (they may even be from the 70's). Mugs however are either fairly new (gifts) or wedding presents again.

I also have a lot of backing dishes etc that I have used about twice. As you can see I hardly cook and when I do have spare money my priorities are elsewhere. lol

That sounds nice and pretty! Enjoy them! Maybe make a special dinner to celebrate them?

Kitchenwares stuff is my passion. I'm frugal, in general, but I have almost everything needed from a kitchenware shop.

I like my plates, but they are getting old, too. I'm the one in the household that breaks things all of the time. My bowl numbers are probably few enough to warrant a whole new dish set.

I think my Tegretol XR makes me clumsy. My psychiatrist agrees. I'm also careless, physically. In addition to breaking things, I've always got some bruise or burn or cut from this or that. My husband is like a baby about his "boo-boos", but I'm the opposite. I've broken a couple of things he was sentimental about and he yelled and cried as a result. I'm not that sentimental about items, but have broke a couple special things I really regret breaking, like a crystal champagne flute my mom bought us for our wedding day.

I'm very happy for you and your husband, Jensitive22! Enjoy your new sets of dishes. I have never paid much attention to my dishes to be honest. Maybe I should. Sending many hugs to everyone

Awww...so sorry about the champagne flute. I fully understand sentimental value. I also have balance issues and essential tremor in my hands, so I need to slow down and make small deliberate movements rather than operating on automatic pilot. My husband moves around the kitchen like he’s running a race. I’m always telling him to slow down, that there’s no hurry to get things done. The stove top always looks like a bomb’s gone off😊, but I can’t complain. He loves to do the cooking.
