Definitely mirror. That is precisely how I see myself.
They say photos show more how others see you. I hate what I look like in photos, with only the occasional exception. And yet a photo I see as an ugly one of me my husband often says is lovely. Ones I like of myself my husband doesn't like as much. It's a common occurrence. You can find several articles discussing this topic. It becomes a matter of perception. How about you, Jester's Rags? |

neither is the real me. I usually don't recognize myself in either. my flesh and blood self is my real self, but if I had to choose...mirror.

Mirror for me. Photos are just that snapshot in time. No motion, no life.

Mirror for sure. I feel amazing looking in the mirror but in photos I feel like I look empty, unhappy and ugly. Im not sure why I see so many good things in the mirror and none of that in a picture.
The comment about photos being how other people see you is what I am always afraid of. Thats not how I want to look.

Do other people dislike how they sound in recordings? Again, we hear ourselves a bit differently than others do. |

I'm not that photogenic, so I usually prefer the mirror.

Mirror for me. Photos don’t do me justice.
And I don’t like my voice recorded either. I actually find it weird when I hear it recorded. |

Re: hearing your own voice. I used to have a band and when I listen to anything we recorded, I can tell it’s me. But most of my friends/family didn’t recognize my voice. I always got “who’s singing”. Now wether that’s a good or bad thing is a different story.

Mirror.
The mirror lives. It talks body language, it hides nothing, it is reality, not posed. I don't look good in either, but in a world where I am constantly forced to 'fake it' with a mask, the mirror reflects what it sees, and that, as ugly as it might me, is refreshing. |

I don't know.
I flatly refuse to have photos of me in the house, and mirrors just make me anxious |

A photo taken by someone who loves me. I've seen candid photos of myself, laughing, listening intently to someone speak, looking a bit sad, looking fully at the picture taker with all the love in my heart. These are the real me.
I put on the mask, the one I wear in public, I put it on even for myself while looking in the mirror, and I wear the mask when I take a photo of myself. |

It's interesting how so many of us don't like the sound of our own voices when we hear a recording...I guess that's really common.
I think answering machines, the old style with tapes, helped a lot of people over 45 get past that initial "Oh my God! Is that how I sound?!". I can only speak for myself, but, it was because each time someone rang me, and before the internet cell phones, the landline rang a lot, you heard your own voice in the outgoing message. So after a year or two of cringing, it just became, "yeah, that's my voice...whatever" |
