In the course of doing the work up for the cause of my iron anemia (hematologist thinks gastritis plus ulcer surgery plus Protonix), it was found some of my liver enzymes were elevated. An abdominal ultrasound showed I have a somewhat fatty liver, not horrible, but also not that common in nonalcoholics who are not overweight or diabetic. A closer study showed the fattiness was mild and was supposed to check for scarring though I haven’t heard back about that yet. Pdoc said oh, yeah, he’d bet it was caused by Seroquel (which I have taken for many years). The problem is if I am not on an AP, I usually go to full mania quickly. I tried Abilify, but that didn’t help me, ages ago Risperdal. Are there any APs out there easier on the liver? I am also scared of trying a new one as Seroquel has worked quite well for me, and every med has side effect horror stories out there.
Is there anything other than an AP that dials back mania? Wellbutrin and Adderall are recent additions (around a year) for me and don’t seem to cause mania or hypomania more than before I started them.. Pdoc sent me to have my cholesterol tested, but I don’t have those results back either though it has been trending upward (still normal but bad cholesterol up every 2 years when my PCP checks it).

I take Geodon and it is metabolized in the liver as well. Thank you for asking this because I hadn't thought about it before. Its a necessary evil for me and my doctor sends me for regular bloodwork to check my enzymes. Before I lost weight I was pre-diabetic and before I stopped drinking I had elevated liver enzymes and fatty liver disease. I was fortunate to reverse all of that through getting sober and losing weight but I try and be very conscientious about what I take. I cant take any NSAIDs so I have to watch it with the tylenol as well.

I am the same with NSAIDs as I had a perforated duodenal ulcer (no symptoms, no idea I had an ulcer so not treating it). I have to watch the Tylenol. I don't drink and never have. I have had maybe 5 drinks in my life (each just one per occasion and the last 3 nightly drinks of red wine at dinner with our host from hurricane Harvey evacuation - major stress). I have non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Some could also be caused by being underweight/past anorexia as I've read about fat in those cases possibly being stored more in the liver.
