I've been off of BC for years until my BP meds were regulated. Which they are now as of one year (yay!). Hubby got a vasectomy after our last son, so there is a very low chance of pregnancy, which we decided is best since there are 3 children in our blended family under the age of 12.
But, my periods are awful, and I want to be on the pill so I can skip my periods all together.
I'm afraid hormones in it will affect my BP tho.
Suggestions, comments, personal stories would be greatly appreciated Birth control.

Not on the pill, but I'm on Nexplanon (the arm implant) and I don't think it's made my BP any worse but right now I'm untreated so I'm not stable anyway, but I don't think it's the BC. I also haven't gotten my period in over a year which I will not complain about. It does give me acne though and I was told if I wanted that to go away to switch to a copper IUD, but I figured I'd wait until my three years is up. The insertion was a piece of cake and I'm glad I don't have to (remember to) take the pill every day.
Thanks for this!

I have the Mirena IUD (has progesterone not copper). Its kept my periods away for years. I'll need to figure out if I want another Mirena at age 50 (3 years). My GYN won't take out my current IUD until I'm at least 50. I could take it out myself but then my heavy periods could return and I don't want that.

I was having a lot of bad years with my bipolar disorder, when on the pill, but I'm not sure how much the pill played a part. I do remember talking to my gynecologist about the issue. She said some pills were better bets than others. It was not too clear if any were for me, though. I'd talk to your gynecologist.

When I was on the pill, my periods were all over the place. I never tried one that stopped my period. I do recall that issues like menstrual cramps improved. Later, I had a copper IUD. That was necessary because my Tegretol XR reduces the effectiveness of hormonal birth control. The copper IUD was a mess for me. I had very heavy periods when using one and cramping. I developed iron deficiency anemia and needed iron supplements. It also shifted out of place twice. I had it removed a second time and hubby got a vasectomy, finally. My period situation is now quite good (super reliable and few cramps). My bipolar disorder is what it is. I'm sure BC wouldn't make it any better. I won't say that my "time of month" never affects my moods, but doesn't habitually.

I have polycystic ovarian syndrome and take the pill (microgestin.) Its cleared my complexion and I haven't had a period since January. It hasn't affected my moods much.
