Hey, Im on lithium and now swapped my quetiapine for arpiprazole. But the Pdoc on my ward said really I dont need both meds. Im concerned if they take me off the Lithium I will become unstable. Because years ago I didnt manage on just one medication.

If you were doing well on the combo of Lithium and Quetiapine why the swap to Abilify?

I assume your Seroquel was d/c'd out of concern for metabolic side effects? Maybe not. In any case, I was on Abilify and lithium for a long time and it worked well for me. I finally d/c'd the Abilify because of some movement disorderish side effects, which, thankfully went away after stopping the medication. Lithium saved my life and I would personally never stop it for any reason.

I would be concerned too. I have been on lithium and abilify, and personally I didn't feel that the abilify did much. When they tried to d/c my lithium, things got unstable pretty quickly. Just keep an eye out and let them know the moment things start to feel funny. I had that hunch too, and I was right.

Edit: I've never been stable on less than 3 meds (2 mood stabilizers and 1 for anxiety)

Hi!

Welcome to the PCBipolar Forum!

I hope you find the information and the support you may be seeking.

It's critically important to mention your concern(s) to your treating pdoc, asap.
Your pdoc should listen to you and should offer an explanation to you.

Some pdocs (and clients) find Abilify more activating, which may or may not be helpful to you. I cannot be sure this is the reason why the change in medication. Again, please talk to your pdoc to see what s/he is planning for a medication plan/goal.

I can understand your concern about staying stable, for sure!

Hey it was a really good combo for me for a long time. But they said the quetiapine was affecting my heart so I had to stop it

As I understand your post, you said that she wants you to take Abilify only? With no mood stabilizer? That seems very odd to me, and I would be insistent about my concern about not having the Abilify and the lithium.

I'm on abilify only. I don't think it's enough.
