I love the way Dr. Tracey Marks helps to make sense of how the brain contributes to the emotional states and thought patterns we experience. These two videos explain some theories as to what happens when we ruminate and why mindfulness and coping skills help to counteract the effects of depression. They are both pretty short. Enjoy!

Thanks so much for these. Rumination has been a huge issue for me over the years.

Me too. Sometimes my brain feels like a record skipping. Forgive me if you're too young for that analogy

I thought it was interesting that science speculates rumination comes from an overactive part of the brain that slows down when we are grounded in the moment. I also liked to learn that we can slow it down on a more permanent level with practice. I've been working to catch myself when I am ruminating lately. It's tricky.

Even my kids know what a record is and that they skip- they are 18, 20 and 22.

Mine too and they are 7 and 4, but we have a pretty sweet record collection and we play them all the time

Enjoy! Dr. Marks has been very helpful to me. She is honest and admits the difference between theory and fact. Shd explains the science and points out when there are holes in it. I find that refreshing. I liked this series a lot.
