Has anyone experienced antidepressant causing anxiety? I know they can cause dysphoric mania, but not just straight up anxiety.
Any ideas? |

My Emsam did at first but we were able to balance it out with meds and I don't have any anxiety now that I would attribute to the med (it's been 10 years now). I've used a combination of klonopin and gabapentin. I'm coming off klonopin with the world's slowest taper, so far .5 mg in about 15 months. I started tapering and my father got sick and died. I got past that, tapered again and a family member got cancer and I'm anxious about him so another taper is a ways off. Thankfully my pdoc is in no rush and knows pushing me off while dealing with the excess stress won't work.
I think the first while I was on vistaril along with the other meds (gabapentin either not used yet or at a much lower dose than now). It helped.

Dysphoric mania includes anxiety. Severe anxiety, agitation, racing thoughts, irritability/anger/rage, etc. -and dysphoric mania is frequently part of a mixed-state episode.
For me, severe anxiety is probably the most difficult aspect of BP. Okay, but your question....I wish I knew how to answer it. Do you mean "general anxiety" as might be experienced with GAD...or OCD? As in "normal" anxiety? I'm sorry; I'm trying to understand your question.

Some antidepressants are activating that’s why in general AD’s are touchy and use is monitored closely for anyone with Bipolar .. Some people can has straight anxiety and some people it directly effects Bipolar and can cause a blip in stability.
