Just wondering if I am starting to get genuine psychosis or if what I experienced last night was just hypnagogic/hypnopompic hallucinations.

Basically, I woke up at 2am ish, and for about half an hour, I was hearing things and having thoughts put in my mind that weren't mine. they kept saying things like, "say good-bye," and "what the hell are you doing?".

Possible trigger:

HI Blue!

It must be somewhat confusing to have these experiences?

As far as I know, the hypnagogic/hypnopompic hallucinations don't usually involve thought insertion and/or psychic visions.
I am not an expert in this, however.

I am concerned about you. These experiences you'd had last night (early this morning) are the types of experiences you share with us when you are starting to experience psychosis.

What helps when you start experiencing symptoms of psychosis?

Have you had any med changes lately? Any extra stress? Been sleeping at night? Other?
You'd recently reported having been upset about "bad" memories . Do you think this might be playing a part?

I am glad you have reached out, asking for input. Others may be along with a different perspective to offer.

I hope you will keep an eye on things and will seek additional help if wanted/needed.

Much Love

No, I haven't had any med changes in a long time. Also, there's no extra stress since I'm not back at work yet. I go back to work on Monday. But interestingly, I see my pdoc tomorrow. (It just happens that I have an appt scheduled, after not seeing him for over a month.)

I'm not sure if the bad memories are a trigger or not, but it's been a while since I've experienced this sort of stuff.

Admittedly, I don't know much about hypnopompic/hypnagogic hallucinations, but since it happened at like 2am, I figured it'd be a possibility. Sounds like it might not be sleep related, then. However, I was forced into thinking about things that I didn't even know about. I just have a gut feeling that these thoughts are someone else's, but another part of me says that's not true.

Is this the only recent episode like this, blue?

And just btw and especially for you, as you mentioned it, I have had a bunch of visions in the past, so I relate. They are mind-blowing to me, but I have also found them very, very scary at times. PM me of you want to talk about this more. I don't really feel comfortable posting 'publicly' all about my visions here, as they can be sorta quite controversial and sometimes people decide they want to send you (not you, in this instance, me) to the hospital... Anyhow, that's what I was wondering--is this the only recent time like this?

Hi Blue,

Just checking in when I had a few minutes.

While other people's thoughts may have an influence on our thinking, we don't think the thoughts of other people and/or the thoughts we experience are ours.

I am especially concerned in that you are due back to work soon.
I am glad you'll be seeing your pdoc tomorrow. I hope he will be helpful.
Has it helped in the past to do a temporary med adjustment?

I'll be checking in intermittently. Just PM me if you need to talk privately.: I'll get back to you.

Otherwise, I will check in here intermittently.
Take care!

I wish I could help decipher what you've described. I have what I believe to be hypnogogic experiences and they can be very disturbing; sometimes annoying, sometimes frightening.

The part of your experience that concerns me is that you are considering that someone is putting thoughts into your mind. When I think that someone is putting thoughts into my mind, or that I'm reading someone's thoughts it's an indication that I'm not stable.

I'm glad you're seeing your pdoc tomorrow. Let us know how it goes.

I think it could be due to sleep.....my pdoc would always give me the benefit of the doubt if i were falling asleep or waking up.....mine we always brief but I’ve heard of longer. Personally I would alert pdoc and anyone else who might watch out for more serious progression ....just keep an eye out, I found the more I worry about hallucinations the more likely I am to have another.....

I've read that hallucinations while falling asleep or waking up are normal. I find them to be extremely "real" so I have to ask my kids if they heard it to- usually they say no.

Be completely open with your pdoc because I think this is a question best answered by him. I hope you aren’t becoming psychotic and that you are able to maintain stability!

Thanks for your replies, everyone.

I didn't have any hallucinations last night, but I also woke up 12 times and wasn't tired, so maybe they were sleep hallucinations from being tired after all?

I think I was oversleeping before, hence i wasn't tired last night
