I had an episode with my doctor today. I lost one of my prescriptions. I also had my meds adjusted, but he forgot to order one of them. I sent him an email. I then left a message. No response from him. Meanwhile, I have been finding it more difficult to function. I have a job to hold down.

So I went to his home office. He was not happy with me. He was very turse with me, starting to treat me, like how one would reprimand a child. He then told me that he does not have to rewrite the lost prescription. This scared me.

I have known him for 20 years. He has rarely to rewrite a prescription. Lately he has been developing this attitude toward me. However, I have never seen him so disrespectful and rude to me. This is bothering me allot right now. I need my meds to function.

So what do all of you think of this?

Maybe his kid is a heroin addict or wife is now gay. Who knows.

But that interaction does not meet the minimum std. of care in AZ or any other state. Pls. get a real pdoc now.

Hugs.

My pdoc is moody. Most of the time she's so helpful and uses her experience very well. Now and then she's cold-ish and doesn't seem entirely present. There have been times when I alllmost fired her. So I understand how you're feeling, I think.

Since you've been seeing your pdoc for so many years you know each other quite well by now. If the type of behavior you've described is unusual for him, I'd tend to let his "bad day" pass. Or, if you feel like you can tell him that you found his comment about "rewriting the prescription" worrisome, let him know.

I've been seeing my pdoc for almost 4 years and once in that time I lost a written prescription. She was a bit snarly about it...apparently pdocs have to make a report when they rewrite a script. If they rewrite too many they have to pick up trash along the highway or something equally as demeaning that doesn't involve a chair to sit in.

So I'd say that if this is a one-time thing, meh...let it pass. If it's a new normal then yes, it's probably time for a fresh start.

Maybe he should take the time to call scripts in for patients or submit them electronically if he is going to have an issue with a loss situation.

A new doctor may have their own set of issues, but it may be worth a shot.

I am currently searching for a new doctor, since the one I was seeing said (openly to me), that he hoped that I got covid 19, and I am not taking that from a professional

but the search is proving hard for now. hopefully will find someone (well, I don't really have much of a choice.)

Your doctor sounds like mine. Mine is always losing my prescription for Xanax and not calling it in. So far it’s gotten resolved each time but it’s taken a few days of back and forth on the phone. He hasn’t gotten angry though because I just deal with his nurse not him. It scares the hell out of me each time not knowing when I’ll have it. Sometimes I feel like it’s all just a test to see if I’m an addict or drug seeking. Although I feel like I’m being paranoid when I think that.

Hopefully your doctor calls it in.

For controlled substances, some states require a written prescription so the MD can keep a carbon copy of the script.

It seems that in my state, or at least in my region, they're allowing computer ordered prescriptions now. What a relief.

Start checking out options, is my advice. Sometimes they're there, sometimes they're not and we have to deal with the pdoc we have. Since you're not a small town, though, you probably have options.

Wow! That's rigid. So if you genuinely lose a prescription...say, you're mugged and your purse with the script in it is stolen, what do you do?

Yes it’s a new doctor. My old one would give me a few days leeway but this one is strict. My old doctor I’d been with for 20 years and she retired.

What, this is a rather strange behavior. If your doctor is a good professional and you don't want to lose him, I would recommend that you try to talk to him about it.
