I took 5 Xanax today. I also switched off from Tylenol and Advil every 3 hours. I took 20 milligrams of melatonin. Then I had my usual meds. I am not S at all or dealing with SH. I just had bad anxiety today and was in physical pain. I feel kinda weird right now. My stomach is off but it’s been off. I’m not drowsy or having a fast heart beat or confusion.
Does anyone know of any benzo or anxiety med that won’t cause any sort of increased hunger or weight gain? I don’t think my Xanax works very well anymore. I was on Ativan but I only got 15 a month. Maybe I should ask about going back on that. I still have about 40 in a bottle in my dresser. They are almost 2 years old though. I’ve always thought of weaning myself off Xanax and onto Ativan. I just don’t want to seem like a drug seeker when I see my Pdoc in a few weeks. But maybe I finally need to be honest with him about the Xanax.

I wouldn't be too worried about 5 pills, especially if you're "used to" Xanax. Yes, I would consider it too much, and I wouldn't do it again, but I don't think it will cause any significant harm. When I was stupid enough to OD on a mix of about 20 various benzos, it had me knocked out for 24 hours and my memory was off for a week, but it wasn't life threatening or anything like that. And I hadn't been using benzos regularly, so I wasn't acclimated to them.
I don't think switching from Xanax to lorazepam or any other benzo will provide any advantages. If Xanax doesn't work anymore, I don't think lorazepam will. And even if it does, it won't work for long. Benzos simply aren't meant to be used longer than about two weeks. The best thing would be to gradually get off benzos altogether. They're never a long-term solution because you'll just need more and more of it. Honestly I don't understand why some psychiatrists prescribe benzos for extended periods of time. They of all people should know that that just ends up causing more problems than it solves. Last edited by FluffyDinosaur; Jun 12, 2021 at 10:00 AM. |

If you're really worried about potential OD, you could always call poison control. The stomachache could be from the painkillers and the stress too. Neither of those are really helpful to the stomach.
My pdoc years ago put me on Klonopin, and I had what she called a "dissociative episode," which was really scary. And the Klonopin just didn't seem to work for me. I also tried Xanax before that, and it did absolutely nothing. I take CBD gummies and have good luck with it. I use a brand that was recommended to my mother by her GP to help with some of her cancer symptoms. Of course my pdoc knows I take it and says there aren't any interactions with my meds. I take a fairly small amount, and it helps a lot. Maybe it would be an option for you? It does seem to make me the tiniest bit hungrier, but I've actually lost weight while taking it. It's definitely not the cheapest thing, since it isn't covered by insurance, but for me, it's not that bad since I don't need to use much for it to effect me. Anxiety is just the worst. *hugs* |
