Hello. I’ve been manic for two weeks with my usual symptoms: racing thoughts, feeling “up,” irritability, insomnia, and difficulty concentrating. My psychiatrist bumped my Saphris from 10mg to 20 mg a week and a half ago, but it hasn’t helped much yet. I’ve spent way too much money. I’m on a fixed income so manic spending is a disaster. I had to ask my cousin for a loan to prevent being overdrawn. I feel so ashamed and guilty for the spending. Has anyone had success with curbing manic spending? Thank you.

I have and it took me years. I got my credit card limit to be the lowest it could be which was £500 (unsure what that is in your money). I slowly upped it over 10 years now its sitting at £3,000 max. I went to my bank explained the situation I have bipolar etc etc and they were great with me.
I also give my cards to my family and my amazon orders etc go to my parents house so to monitor it. I don't store cards online. I overspent last Christmas and my parents went mental at me. So now I am being good lol Hope this helps? Sent from my SM-G980F using Tapatalk |

Give your cards to others to hold. Put a limit on your card and don’t keep any cards online.

I don't really have any experience of manic overspending, but I want to welcome you to the forum, Lizzie

I reordered a $50 subscription snack box, ordered 2 pairs of shorts from Kohl’s totaling $72 and I just now bought a $136 pair of Beats headphones. I had a lot of cash back rewards though and I plan on returning the shorts so in total I really only have like $50.
That’s what happens though when my mom leaves me alone with my credit card for the weekend and I’m super depressed.

Overspending is a major problem I have as well. I have about $5000 in credit card debt at the moment. I have most of it on a 10.9% interest card and, if I stick to my payment plan will have it paid off in 16 months. I cancelled my highest rate card and intend to cancel another once the balance is transferred. I intend to use a Visa debit as an alternative to my credit cards.

That's very smart. I have a credit card locked away for emergencies, but use my debit cards to keep me between the financial lines. Of course, I haven't had a manic episode in a very long time.

So Sorry you're dealing with this. i agree with the other wise and wonderful about giving you welcome and giving a limit to your credit cards if you have them. Giving your debit card to your cousing was a wise decision i think. i Hope you're also getting the necessary treatment. Definitely try to ask for Help to friends or relatives if you can. i don't think you need to be ashamed about asking for Help. Stay Safe. Please do keep su updated if you want to. Sending many safe, warm hugs to BOTH you, @Lizzie1813, your Family, your Friends and ALL of your Loved Ones! Keep fighting and keep rocking NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, OK?!

If you spent your money on things, any chance you could return or sell the stuff? Ditto what the others are saying too. Hope your mania dies hard fast.

I've over spent too many times over the years. This is one of the first times I've had money this late into the month. Usually I am dead broke by the 2nd week. I would suggest giving your cards to family to hold and don't save card info on shopping sites. When you have to go shopping take only what you intend to spend in cash. Better yet what I use to do was have my mom hold my money and she would give me a weekly allowance to spend. If I spent it that was it. Of course when that was happening I was in deep. She would make sure I payed my bills. Keep in mind I was married while this was happening. It was kind of embarrassing. So basically she took over my finances until I was well enough to do it on my own. I'm not 100% better but at least the bills get paid now before anything else happens. I am back to taking care of my own money and bills. So basically my mom was responsible for making sure my household bills got paid. My husband is just as bad with money as me. We both have mental disorders. We rely on our families for help sometimes. Anyways, just my suggestions. Good luck.
