I keep having deja vu experiences, and it's been going on for quite a while now. I have a conversation and then moments later I feel certain I've said those exact same things before, but I don't remember when and it seems unlikely that I actually have. It's not a huge problem but it's weird. Anyone know of meds or psychiatric symptoms that could cause recurrent deja vu? Could it be related to ECT messing with my memory?

Edit: Even as I'm posting this I feel certain that I've posted the exact same thing before.

I used to get this really badly when I was a kid. Sometimes I get it now but I think it’s just because my life and days are so repetitive. For me each day is basically the same. So it would make sense that I would be doing and saying the same things.

I've never had this before, certainly not to this degree. And it's been going on for a couple of months, I don't recall exactly how long but I think it started not long after I had ECT. So that has me a little worried about the state of my mind.

Yeah I know how you feel. I’ve been on benzos nonstop for over 3 years and at times I’m wondering how my memory is doing.

Hi FluffyD, I've experienced deja vu since I was a child. It's disorienting (to say the least), and when it happens my short-term memory becomes affected. I've assumed it's an anxiety reaction.

I get this fairly often. It's always such a strange feeling. It gets pretty detailed too.

Yeah, I wouldn't really mind it if it were just now and then, but this is happening several times a day now.

My deja vu used to be pretty frequent until i went on topamax, which stopped other mild epileptic symptoms i had always experienced (the jacksonian or johnsonian march - i cant keep my presidents straight!).

So yeah i could see it being related to ECT. A deja vu actually electrical / a mild brain seizure. I would discuss with your dr.

Thank you, I will! I've actually sent them an e-mail already, but no reply yet. I could see it being related either to the ECT, or perhaps to the Lamictal I take, some paradoxical effect perhaps. It's an anti-convulsant but I believe in rare cases it can cause seizures, too, if I recall correctly.

Been reading a little about this and I do see a lot of folks with epilepsy mentioning deja vu and how Lamictal reduced that. I'm starting to get a little freaked out now because if it is due to a paradoxical Lamictal effect then I might need a med change, and I really don't want to mess around with that right now. And if it's due to the ECT that's even worse, because then there's nothing I can do about it now.

Hopefully it's not an effect of ECT. Several times/day sounds rather miserable.
