I've started over recent times to become obsessed with things and people. I'm hooked on a show on Netflix and have googled and imdb the hell out of it. People from my past have came into my head Professionals and I have been googling them looking at pics of them wondering if they remember me.
Thing is I don't like this side of me as I can become stalker ish and that'd the last thing I want. I'm not like this normally or not to this extent. I've tried taking my mind off of the things, people etc but I'm getting nowhere Any help would be great thanks! Sent from my SM-G980F using Tapatalk |

Do you know what's triggering the obsession? Maybe something in your life you don't want to think about, so you're diving into this instead?

Yeah sure I have a lot on my plate, but you think this would of came out when my Mum died in July. I'm mad at myself that I'm like this. I hate feeling/being like this

I wouldn't be too hard on yourself. You're human and trying to cope with a major loss. Have you ever tried a grief support group?

No, we are currently not able to access groups like this due to the pandemic. It would be on zoom and I can't go on zoom due to anxieties. I haven't been to the bipolar support group since January 2020. Even though it held on Zoom since March 2020.

Oh, that's too bad you don't feel comfortable with Zoom. Zoom support groups were the only thing that kept me from going crazy during this pandemic. I actually prefer Zoom to in person now, because I don't have to drive anywhere.

Yeah I have to do a kinda zoom ring for psychiatry every 3 months and have it. But it's only for 5 minutes so I grin and bare it.
I just hate how obsessed I can get. I dream of these people all the time. I honestly would love to be able to draw so I cam have their picture with me at all times. I'm sorry you're being haunted by these obsessions.
As for Netflix...it is easy to become obsessed with a show that you really love. I'm on my third round of watching "Versailles" and have learned all about the actors, etc. Doing that would have bothered me in the past; now, not so much. I try to relax and enjoy that which I enjoy.

Hey @BethRags is that a netfix origional or was it first a showtime show? I adored the Tudors which I never saw until netflix and wondered about versailles.

Miss Laura, I found the following blog article a while back and you may want to read it. Bipolar Disorder with Obsessive Thoughts & Behavior - NAMI Montgomery County, MD - NAMI Montgomery County, MD I found it because my bipolar disorder also sometimes creates obsessive thinking and behavior. The point someone made about stress and coping is also on target for the likely causes. I don't have OCD, but when greatly stressed, some behaviors may seem slightly so. What we do to cope varies. Some healthy, some not, and some skirt the extremes.
I've definitely had obsessions like yours. My goodness, people wouldn't believe a period of obsession with my former psychiatrist! And during an equally hard time an obsession with the movie and book Pride and Prejudice. Then I fell into an extreme period of maladaptive daydreaming! They were in some ways relatively innocent obsessions, in others detrimental to my well-being. I could describe some of the detriments, if you want. The whys and hows these started are a little complex, but loss/grief (of various sorts) was involved. I did get past the above, at least for the most part. Especially the maladaptive daydreaming. I now more often use healthier coping skills. Don't get down on yourself, though. Consider starting to curb the tendencies by deliberately planning other activities. You might take the advice of focusing on the grieving process in therapy. Grief and loss are among the most painful experiences in life. All here have experienced some (or will), to varying degrees. Many here have sadly lost one or both parents and/or other extreme loved ones. You're not alone.

When I watch a historical movie or show I do some research about the era in which the story takes place. I learn a lot of history that way!
