I made a post a little bit ago as my first post. Update:
My psychiatrist's LPN who is my care coordinator she is out sick until Monday. With the weekend rolling in everywhere is closed in terms of psych office.

My concern with me is I'm in a rough situation. I can't go to the hospital because I have a girlfriend and 8 year old dependent on me. I own a landscape and snow removal business 2nd year. And if it snows and I'm in the hospital I could be in a even worse situation.

Reasons for all of this is I'm under extreme amount of stress, I have financial difficulties potentially on the verge of eviction, we are late on our rent and have ran our resources dry since we both have issues going on however my girlfriend is way more stable than me. I've had a lot of things over the year that costed me money flats, breakdowns, business renewal, list is a mile long, little to no money to stay a float.

Symptoms. Daily panic attacks from the morning I wake up to the moment I go to sleep. I'm plagued with only being prescribed 0.5mg clonazapam at night time. Constant fear if I'm going to be able to have enough money to pay for my rent, another financial issue. Feel like I'm going crazy in my head because I'm constantly thinking about the what if's given there all rational things..

I can't say for sure if I'm having hallucinations or not I mean sometimes when I listen to an actual song and then not play any music the rest of the day I will hear that same song I played earlier go through my head at times. I don't know if that classifies or not as an auditory hallucination. I'm not hearing people or things that aren't there. I am however hyper vigilant to sounds. And I'll confirm if my girlfriend heard it or not. And 100% of the time she will say yes. I don't see things that are not there except eye floaters or visual snow which my primary doctor said is due to stress and a common complaint.

Short version: How can I tell if I'm going into psychosis or psychotic or I'm having a nervous breakdown?. Hospital is not really an option right now. I don't use street drugs other marijuana hear and there as I was daily smoker until a couple months ago when all of this life stuff started happening. I take my clonazapam every night and have for the last year or so.

I just need some answers if anyone experiences this and if did what was your outcome?

Extremes stress can cause me psychosis. Have you ever had psychosis? If so is this what it feels like when starting for you? It starts in all different ways for me hypervigilance usually is a sign I'm becoming mixed/paranoid. I suggest you write down all your stressors and call monday to your psychiatrist office and see if they have a case manager you can talk to that can walk you through solutions and resources for your area. IF they do not have that look into your community resources or catholic charities. Depending on your insurance you may have a case worker through there too.

Financial insecurity can drive a person crazy. I know from my own experience.

It sounds to me like your stress and anxiety are causing you to come unglued. I REALLY believe medication would help.

It depends on the Dr. Mine won't give antianxiety meds that are benzos. Some Dr don't give antidepressant to bipolar ( mine does and it's for anti anxiety too) if they really feel it needs to be addressed it could be an as needed antipsychotic or any combination of these. If it's because of a mood swing then maybe a mood stabilizer.

Each and every one of us deal with similar issues and each of our drs deal with it in different ways. I'm sorry it's not a straight x symptom equals y med.

I hope you can hang in there until Monday. If you feel like you might hurt yourself, I would go to the emergency room. I know you have responsibilities, but you can't attend to them if you're dead. So your mental health has to be a priority.

So we aren’t drs here and can’t diagnose but I would go with extreme stress rather than psychosis at this point. Psychosis implies losing touch with reality according to my doc. It’s not just hallucinations. You have to also lose the ability to realize they aren’t real.....this is more common off meds. So rather than just hearing a song you might think you were an amazing composer of that song or that you were telepathically listening to a concert. Something weird usually involving the self at the center. A lot of people still refer to it as psychosis when it’s just hallucinations but there are medical conditions that can cause hallucinations independently from psychosis and also once you take meds like antipsychotics you can often discern reality again although you can still have hallucinations from time to time.

Still extreme stress and psychosis can be linked due to cortisol release. Do what you can to relax. Cbt therapy can help....challenging thought spirals can help and so can self care.

My guess is similar to that of member Sometimes psychotic, above.

During a particularly stressful time I had "musical hallucinations". I never regarded them as anything typical for the reasons Sometimes psychotic mentioned. But that didn't make them any less painful and concerning.

I totally feel for the bind you find yourself in and sending many hugs. Remember that as hard as things get the stress will eventually ease, but I know it's difficult to see that when severely depressed and anxious. Please strongly reach out for help. You are a valued person.

Hi all,

New to the form here,

I experienced psychosis back in 2007 and it wasn't fun, I was diagnosed in a jail cell with Bipolar disorder and Mania. You can imagine how that went and now I am struggling with a weird form of PTSD from that experience.

But anyway, if it is any consolation it seems to me that you are more likely under a lot of stress than psychosis, based on my own personal experience. But left unmonitored extreme stress can turn into psychosis. When I experienced my psychosis I was struggling with existential anxiety and panic attacks at that time and had gotten off my anti-depressants cold turkey. That combination triggered my episode.

15 years later after recovering from that incident, I am now trying to manage my own business and be a provider to my family. And your post is currently reminding me of my current situation. Coming from someone who experienced both psychosis and extreme stress at one point in my life, I have learned to tell the difference.

Keep in mind I am not a professional just sharing my personal experience and you should always seek professional help if you feel it is escalating.

But it seems to me that you are experiencing symptoms that are stress related.

Waking up with music in your head, monologuing in your brain about "have too's" maybe ranting of things (symptoms of rumination), and emotional hypersensitivity about things and events. Are symptoms of extreme stress that may trigger mania but good news is that is can be managed and you will noticed the symptoms subsiding. If you practice stress relieving exercises. (Companied with proper treatment from a professional of course).

* meditation,
* exercise
* eating healthy
* get plenty of sleep (Very Important) <------ Can't emphasis this enough

You may not be able to control the external at the moment but you have control of your mind and how it reacts.

Try practicing breathing exercise and remind yourself "This is temporary, this bad moment it will pass."

And most importantly be positive, like saying positive montages. Listen to positive music and avoid negative toxic media as much as possible.

The brain has a funky way to echo back what you absorb from the media.

When you absorb positive input, your brain echo's positively back to you.

If you absorb negative input, your brain will echo negatively back to you.

Hence why sometime I hear my brain talk back to me. They are just echo's of what I absorbed from the previous day.

Keep a journal, sometimes jotting down things is therapeutic and helps with rumination issues.

Hobbies also help, I like to cook it helps me with my Zen and distracts me from negative thinking and brooding to much.

Do cognitive preventive maintenance "Emotional Hygiene - Guy Winch Ph.D", like how a car needs a check-up and oil changed from a mechanic. Your mind does to, talk to a therapist even if you are okay. We absorb a lot of negative junk from the world and talking to someone helps a lot.

I hope this helps and God Bless.
