btw bizi, I hope your provider was helpful and did not tell you to ''just cope'' with the knee pain. I haven't been following all your posts so sorry if this post is a little off... not my intention.

off topic.
I have recalculated my benzos and I have more than I thought. Not ''enough'' but they do not prescribe enough and I have to ''just cope''..... I will be f.i.n.e.... and much more so if I do not have to talk to someone who routinely insults me and my intelligence with their tantalisingly brief and often untrue or even ugly statements. Sorry about the rant. They let their ''inner snakes' run the show, imho. I would like to MOVE AWAY to somewhere where they show some respect and humanity. (I don't want to talk about my location here. The few times I mentioned my location it was not helpful to me and I prefer to be more anonymous. There is ..... not much more I can say about that, except that I mentioned to papa bear (my husband) the possibility of me consulting a private psychiatrist... It's possible they might be more respectful? He was NOT at all keen on the idea (understatement) He said he ''didn't need more stress in this weather''... He is a good guy. (they... those I have seen, are not )

Hugs and respect

I've never liked the heat of summer, and as a native of New Jersey, I can say the humidity was always nasty, too. Now where I am in Czech Republic, it's usually milder in temps but too often dry. I also complain about the dryness. Either way, I can't be in the sun for very long and I've almost always avoided it because I do not tan. I am only "Vice President of the Cement Factory" white, white with some freckles, or beet red that peels and heals back to white. No tanning. Nowadays I wear high SPF sunscreen when outside for long, along with a hat, sunglasses, and sometimes very thin long sleeves. Or I stick to the shade or inside the house. There's skin cancer in my family. I've also developed age spots that needed to be lasered off my face. When it's been extremely hot and humid, I'm prone to prickly heat or other heat related skin issues, especially with exercise. Since starting to take higher doses of antipsychotics, my body heat regulation became even more affected, so I have to be drinking cold beverages (not including alcohol) frequently. Antipsychotic weight gain doesn't help either. The fact that I'm in perimenoupause exacerbates all of this. Anxiety on top of that can make me sweat a lot. The more I sweat, the more I get anxious. Viscous circle all around.

It is only 91 today high of 93.
beats out 97 anyday. We have had bits of rain/scattered showers this past week. We could use some more rain.

Weather channel says 7/10 of the next days are going to be 90 or above (and the other days pretty damn close!). We put in our A/C today since it'll probably be humid too.

I don't know how you guys that regularly get mid-90's-triple digit heat do it. I'd sooner handle -40 temps....I've got the gear!

It is a *grand* 104 degrees right now - and for the coming days. A scorcher! Bone-dry and mind-bending heat.

Aw, thanks, bizi. Usually, our nights get lovely, at least. BUT we do have a handful of nights during the summer that stay hot all night. It feels apocalyptic.

The lowest temperature I've ever experienced was 4 degrees in a mountain town. It was on my birthday in late December and I felt like I was going to freeze to death. I was absolutely miserable. Ideal for me is 68 to 78, nothing lower or higher, haha.

Welll...California's coast is about 800 miles long and the entire coast ranges (in the summer) between 68-ish and upper 80's, whether you're in SoCal (like San Diego or Los Angeles) or NorCal. Nights along the coast are chilly, especially along the north coast.

But, what's been happening is that the coast is heating up. For example, San Francisco is seeing daytime temperatures into the 90's. When I was younger that was literally impossible. It simply did not happen. SF's warmest month is October and even that was never above the low 80's. IF the temperature in San Fran hit 85 it made big news. So climate change is having a serious effect on the Calif coast, which is so sad because of course, the Pacific Ocean ecosystem gets messed up.

As for expensive, yes, the entire coast is extremely expensive (and so magnificent!), but all of this state is so costly. I just read today that the highest rents in the nation this summer are in San Francisco, which scares me because I live close enough to SF that if their rents keep rising, so do the rents in my town. Still, a huge attraction in this state is the weather. We have plenty of heat, but it's not humid heat, and the nights in most places cool down to lovely. Winters are either really pleasant or cold (in the mountains), but not terribly cold. The enormous issue at this time is drought brought on by climate change.

So there's your answer to your question about San Diego, lol.

Here climate change is bringing higher humidity. The hotter temps are affecting wildlife. I don’t hear about acid rain anymore or deformed frogs but the higher life forms are dying off. There’s almost no moose anymore. But the bugs are thriving in the heat and humidity. But I have to admit this year hasn’t been too bad for heat. It’s mostly staying in the 80’s (29C) but with the humidity bad enough. The loner car though doesn’t have a good AC so I try not to go anyplace during the middle of the day.

It's still too hot and sunny for me, it's not nearly as bad though...

Some bears are frolicking outside. I am not.

I would like to be frolicking in the sand as I did sometimes as a cub.

This is insane, in all my 59 years in this Valley I have never experienced heat like this. Nights are tolerable - but I wonder if, at some point, that will change? At this time, from 11 a.m to 10 p.m. outside feels exactly like standing in an oven. There is no prediction of a cool down into the lower 90's, which would be typical at this time of year - with pleasantly cool nights. None. Just day after day after day of infernal heat. I feel I'm going crazy from it.

It seems like when I'm on the phone with my mom all we do is bytch bout the weather. She lost power for two days after a storm last week and my city just broke our hottest record yesterday. We're supposed to get storms today (more power outages predicted). Looks like next week is a couple of days in the upper 80's then back into another heat wave.

I remember when I was a kid we'd have days during the summer where the high would be about 60F and it would just rain steadily all day. This would happen frequently. Now that only happens in winter!!!!!

The last time there was a power outage in NYC was in 2019. Before that, 2003, the infamous 1977 blackout, and 1965. I mean...what is wrong with other places that they cannot avoid blackouts? If NYC can do it right, why can't other places? And I won't even get on a soapbox about public transportation.

The state with the most power outages is...

drum roll...

California.

Pathetic.

I much prefer cool weather. Someone was just bytching to me that it's not warm enough were they live. I don't wanna hear it. This summer reminds me a bit of Dante's inferno. Has anyone read that book?

I know NH can't do it because it's heavily wooded and every time the wind blows a tree branch takes out the power lines. Down in NYC there are less trees and more underground powerlines and they're built to sustain a lot more power usage. My mom lives at the second to last house on the power grid so a lot of times it's just her and maybe a few other neighbors out of power because of something stupid and it takes foreverrrrr to get power back because she's low priority especially during storms where the whole state is out of power. Last time I was up there and we lost power it was because this little itty bitty birch tree was leaning on the lines from something stupid (I like to imagine a bear tried scratching his back on the tree and it fell) and it still took a day for them to fix it when I bet that was the only power outage in the state that day.

I have read only parts of the entire poem. I know that "inferno" means "hell."

Underground powerlines are key. In Calif the power lines are hung up in the air and not only is it ugly, it doesn't work as well, plus the powerlines cause fires. In cities in Europe the lines are underground.
