Last night my eleven year old daughter threatened suicide. She said her mind was saying no, but that her body was saying yes. The poor kid already has panic and generalized anxiety disorder. We have an appointment with our GP on the 5th to get a referral to a therapist.

I hope she's not developing what I have.

I'm so worried about her.

We don't want to put her on meds because she's only eleven, but if she talks anymore about suicide her little *** is going on meds!

What a scary situation! Just keep her safe and if your not sure she will be okay get her evaluated for IP. Yeah not the greatest thing at her age maybe but better she get intensive help. Every IP I’ve ever been to had a unit for kids.

My daughter was diagnosed BP at 19 and I struggled for years of self guilt that she inherited from me but she’s been since been re diagnosed with ADHD.

We can’t always control what genetically we might pass to a child but we can use our own experiences to really help our kids get help and we have enormous empathy.

Take care of you both !

Sending you lots of good wishes, love and good energy. I love Christina's observation about empathy. We do have enormous empathy, whenever we recall that we do. As frightening as last might must've been, I'm praying it's a turning point moment for you daughter-- in the right direction.

I'm so sorry your daughter is in such mental pain. It's good you take such danger seriously, though. Please watch over her closely and do get the referral. My youngest nephew made his first attempt even younger than your daughter's age.

Thank you for the responses.

If she threatens suicide again we're taking her to the hospital.

I'm just a wreck! I can't sleep at all. I'm really stressing. I'm so disturbed. She's only ELEVEN. That's so young to be suicidal.

She had a panic attack at school too and went home early. My husband has panic disorder, but he's unmedicated and has learned how to cope using CBT skills. We're hoping CBT will help our daughter.

CBT has been very helpful for me.

How is your daughter doing now? And how are you? That has to have been scary for you.

Thinking of you

Oh thank you!

We have her doctor's appointment today. Hopefully we'll be able to get in to see a therapist soon. She hasn't felt suicidal since, at least not that I know of. She's on spring break right now so we've been having a lot of family time. She's had anxiety of course. Like we went to a movie yesterday and she refused to use the public restroom, even with me going with her. Something we need to work on.

I have good news! The original wait to see a therapist was four to six months but because of the severity of the situation our doctor bumped us up in line and we have an appointment on the 26th of this month!

I'm glad she's getting the help she (and you!) need as soon as possible. I know the wait is still long but it could be worse.

Please let us know how she/you is/are doing..

I'm glad you got an earlier appointment.

I know it's not the same thing, but whenever one of my kids was scared by something and was your daughter's age, we used to let them sleep with us. It made them feel better and sometines they would sleep with us for a couple of weeks.

I never thought of doing that! Thanks for the idea.
