Hi everyone,
Even with changes to my diet, my weight keeps going up, and I'm thinking it might be the seroquel. I am on it more for sleep than anything else. I am already on another AP in addition to it (Latuda)....

I was thinking about speaking with my pdoc about a weight-neutral med for sleep. I see Trazodone is prescribed to a lot of people, so I was wondering how that might be.

Is anyone else on a med for sleep that has not caused weight gain? This is really frustrating.

thanks

Thanks... I'm not familiar with that one. Is it taken primarily for sleep or also mood stabilization?

Ouch seroquel is a definite weight gainer even at really low doses.

I hope your pdoc works with you to find a solution.

It’s zyprexa and an
Opioid
Antogonist which prevents weight gain. I take
It for mood at night and it helps me sleep!!

Thank you! It's very frustrating. I am also on the birth control implant, Nexplanon, and I think that's also causing the problem. I didn't gain weight when I was on the pill and might try switching back to that as well. It is a shame, because both Seroquel and the implant work well for me, but I'm really unhappy with myself and not being able to fit into my clothes.

I've found metformin helpful with managing clozapine weight. Not perfect but it did help for quite a while. When it didn't keep my weight down anymore I assumed it was at least keeping it from going up further and faster and that it's helping me lose weight now that I'm trying.

Yup, it's well known that Seroquel (an antipsychotic) is notorious for weight gain. It increases your appetite shortly after taking it, so people have to manage the feeling of being ravenously hungry somehow (try doing that without eating anything!) on top of initial problems too(!) That's one med I won't take again for other side effect reasons, as well. All the very best in finding right meds for you.🙏

Someone could say 'oh well, IF it's fixing the initial problem a "little" weight gain is tolerable'. Well, increased weight alone, places you at higher health risk putting strain upon the heart. Try not to clog up your arteries too, all that 'healthy' dairy, managing the increased appetite.

Sorry, I'm just thinking out loud, on topic I hope. Thanks.
