I've been depressed for some time now, and the only upside is that I've lost weight due to loss of appetite. Now my pdoc is significantly titrating up my Seroquel and I'm afraid to gain weight yet again.

Is there anyone here who has NOT gained weight on Seroquel?

Thanks!

I have not gained weight on seroquel.
Actually, i started taking it for post pardum, when i still had the baby weight at 800mg 4 years ago.
Im now down to 100-200 nightly and 150xr nightly and am lower than my pre baby weight.

May be just good luck or may be because of the adderall i take during the day so i dont eat very much because loss of appetite.
I do not work out, drink, smoke weed or any illegal drugs but i do smoke cigs.

I'm fighting a battle against citalopram which I gained 30lbs in 5 months after taking it. We are ramping it back my pdoc and I and I am noticing a difference in my weight and reationship with food already.

Which brings us to the Seroquel...

I DID lose weight while taking it. I'm on a LOT of it and was in fact gaining weight as the years progressed. My mental healthcare team was concerned about how the weight gain was contributing to my depression. Instead of cutting back the Seroquel they added Metformin - and the weight began to fall off. If it wasn't for the damned citalopram. I was doing really well. Aaaaargh!

Okay, Metformin is a diabetic drug but there is a line of thought out there in the medical world that it can conteract the more unpleasant side effects of Seroquel.

We are weaning meoff the citalopram, I'm still on the seroquel, and I'm back on the Metformin. I've noticably lost weight in the ten days since we changed the cocktail.

Do you think you lost weight on the Seroquel because of the lowering of the citalopram or adding the Metformin, or that you lost weight on the Seroquel alone? Sorry if you made this clear but I'm having a particularly hard time focusing today

In any case, I'm really glad you were able to lose weight at least with the metformin. I've heard of it helping to lost weight, just not heard of it used on pts with Bipolar; I will definitely keep that in mind if I gain weight on the increased Seroquel. Thanks!

I'm on 300mg a night and I have not gained. However I do have an eating disorder. Pdocs always joked with me about how seroquel doesn't make me gain and I'm thinking "yea just read my file and you'll know why!" BUT!... I have been eating (and keeping down) a lot of junk. Literally have fast food about every day because I can't drive my car to the store so it's easier for my bf to run through the drive through before he goes to work. If I did gain, im too scared to step on the scale to see it. But nothing obvious or a major change. According to my bf Im still in shape like I was two years ago. But he may be just telling me that to keep my ED from getting out of hand. My clothes still fit and I feel the same. I just have to keep from giving in to those late night cravings seroquel gives me!

Yes, people, i have gained weight on Seroquel. But i look on the bright side: Seroquel arouses my appetite and sharpens my palate so much that food is an incredible source of pleasure! I can almost feel the dopamine dumping into my brain after a good meal. I call it my 'food high.' Just like a heroin junkie after a hit, i am content to sit quietly and watch the world go by if i'm at the mall or watch benign mainstream TV if i'm home. Such a pleasure!
