and I mean really serious.

if a clone of me was watching the real me and the things I laugh about, it would be embarrassed. I'm embarrassed, because I come off as insensitive, but I'm really not. I do care about these things and they shouldn't be laughed at.

I won't post what I laugh about, (if I did I'd remove my own post from embarrassment), but does anyone else do this?

laugh about things that just arn't funny!

Yeah i did. I think its a lack of real empathy, by which i mean, nobody put anything into OUR empathy bucket for us to then give empathy out of.

It IS painful to look back on. In grade school, my best friend called me on the phone to tell me a younger classmate had died. I remember saying, "your kidding!" Why would she kid about that? But thats how my mother reacted to me, no sympathy or empathy ever, altho she had it for my older brother.

The solution for me was to find what i missed in childhood, in adult therapy with a child psychologist. Also look at the Childhood Neglect books, and threads on this site. Neglect cain make you grow as crooked as abuse does, only in a different way.

Yeah sure. I'd try to immediately think of something not funny. Don't even respond to the actual subject. Pretend someone is sawing off your leg. Anything.

Also do not try to explain why it's funny. They likely won't understand. I've feel into this trap numerous times.

Just for the record, I do not believe this is a "bipolar" thing.

It's these types of things that make me feel like an outsider.

Maybe I shouldn't have posted.

If you're virtually pointing your finger at me please kindly take a deep breathe and remember not everyone functions exactly like you.

It just depends on your audience, I suppose.

I've dealt with and worked with a fair share of people who are law enforcement and first responders and believe me, they can have a very dark, very shocking sense of humor. They'll never make jokes at the time nor say anything to individuals they deal with, but get those guys and gals together...

For them (and me to a certain extent), it served as a defense mechanism. A way to lessen the tension of a very tense job.
