I have been on metformin at 500 mg since about 6 months after starting clozaril. It helped me stop gaining weight although I didn't lose any. After reading this article I may ask if I can try increasing to 1000. But I thought it was interesting and maybe could help someone.

Metformin caused me continuing digestive issues it’s not a medication to just use without caution. I’m on three stomach meds because of metformin.

@Nammu I'm sorry to hear that. I know it can cause diarrhea especially with the instant release kind but I didn't know it could cause major issues.

Thanks for the reminder that no med is a safe med.

Thank you for posting, BeyondtheRainbow. I was on it on and off. No side effects and no positive effects. It was eventually Ozempic that helped. And I also changed to less metabolically harmful APs from Zyprexa. But I definitely think that Metformin should be tried and appreciate that now there is this new guidance following a Cochrane review. I hope it helps many patients.
