Good sleep hygiene is very important. It does more for me than all my meds combined (of course, I need some of the meds to sleep - Seroquel, trazodone, hydroxyzine, occasional melatonin). Sleep is hard for me, always has been. Regular exercise is also helpful.

Welcome!

Patience, as hard as it is, is key when finding the right meds. It might take some time, and multiple meds, to find what works for you. Don't be afraid to tell your doctor a med isn't working for you because of side effects (or any other reason).

Like blueberry said, sleep hygiene. Keeping your appointments. Personally I think therapy is a great help. They can be the objective observer and help you put names to your moods and catch the moods before they roll over into serious mountains and valleys. Learning to use coping skills to prevent a little downswing from turning into full blown depression. It helps to get a therapist who’s familiar with bipolar.

@Alex644u Don't let anyone think for you. Maintain responsibility for your own treatment and health.

Prioritize balancing self-care basics: sleep is huge like others said, not just getting enough but making sure it's not too much and somewhat consistent hours. Stay away from any kind of recreational substance (no weed, alcohol, anything like that. Even caffeine can be bad for a lot of us in excess). Having somewhat of a routine is really good for bipolar--getting up, eating regular/decent meals, going to bed, etc. around the same time of day helps.
