Will .5 risperdal make me sleepy? Should I take it with my 7:00 meds in 20 minutes or should I wait till I try to sleep around 10?

I'm on 4 mg of risperdal and it doesn't make me sleepy. I happen to take it with my night meds, but I don't think that it does anything for my sleep. I've never researched to see if fatigue is a side effect though.

She prescribed it for audio hallucinations - I guess the higher Vraylar dose will take a while to kick in.

I agreed to go on the lowest dose despite having mild lactation when I was on a higher dose a year or two ago.

Google says….

“ In summary, while risperidone can cause sedation, it is not as sedating as some other antipsychotics. The sedative effect is often temporary and can be managed in various ways. ”

Now I read that it’s not recommended to take Vraylar and risperdal together- increased risk of TD and sedation and CNS depression. But I swear both say to take at bedtime. I looked up the combination because I feel drowsy- like I took super Benadryl or something.

Man, if a med caused me to lactate I'd be off that shyt so fast! Lol. Lactation is only for when there's a newborn. Been there, done that.

Anyway, I don't know about Risperdal, but I took 200mg of seroquel four hours ago and I'm still wide awake. Haha.

Yeah but so far it’s not making me lactate at this very low dose. I just need it so I can sleep and stop the wild mood swings - and it’s done that. I assume once Vraylar fully kicks in I’ll go off the risperdal.

I slept in after taking my 7:00 meds this morning! I got a call from my peer support worker asking where I was! I totally didn’t think we were getting together today but I made it here and we had 45 minutes together instead of an hour. It was still good! She asked how I could afford a coffee- they’re $3 and I got $1 off so it was $2- and my rent doesn’t go up till next month. But yeah. The coffee is free refills so I usually get one refill if I come here.

Anyway, the risperdal put me to sleep and I feel refreshed this morning. No audio hallucinations- dunno if it works that fast but I haven’t had any anyway..

Just heard from the nurse I talk to every month or so through my primary doctor. We talked about everything the last month. One thing she did say is the risperdal works better if you take it every other day rather than every day. Didn’t know that. We’ll see how I do with falling asleep without it tonight. The risperdal is also to get rid of hallucinations so skipping days… dunno!

The bottle says “once daily as needed”.

Sounds like a good idea to take it if you’re revved up. Hope it calms you down.

After 11 days on risperdal now this….guess I need my prolactin levels checked even on .5 mg!

From Google search: Risperidone, an atypical antipsychotic, is known to cause sexual dysfunction in both men and women. This can manifest as decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, ejaculatory disorders (including retrograde ejaculation), and difficulty with orgasm or vaginal lubrication. These side effects are often linked to risperidone's ability to elevate prolactin levels, but other factors like alpha-adrenergic blockade and effects on dopamine and serotonin pathways may also play a role, according to a review of studies on ScienceDirect.com.
