I am not on this for bipolar but for severe nail biting. And I do have a lot of generalized anxiety, but I really don't think the 2 issues are related. The nail biting is more like OCD or grooming
I take the lowest dose-0.5 mg. It's been 2 weeks. 5 days ago a massage therapist told me the lymph nodes behind my knees were swollen. Then yesterday I started to feel it sometimes when I walked and turned--a tugging that caused some soreness. So I asked my husband to look and he said yes, especially the side I was feeling it on.
Could this be from the meds?

Also, how long do you need to take it before you notice if it's helping or not? Is it as long as SSRI's--3-6 weeks?

My mother has been on this for years and it makes her head and limbs jerk constantly. Other medication has been tried, but the side effects were even worse, so she's stuck on Risperdal for the time being. I hope you don't get the same effects.

BTW, I don't know your case, but Risperdal for nail biting seems extreme. As far as I know, it's usually used to treat bipolar mania, autism and schizophrenia.

Thanks for this!

I've never heard of it being used for nail biting/anxiety. It's an anti psychotic med and is usually used to treat bipolar or schizophrenia. I'd be curious to see how well it works for your case and cases like yours.

But back to your questions, I've been on it for over a year and the only side effect I've noticed is weight gain. I'm currently on 2mg and I know it can cause muscle stiffness but I don't recall seeing anything about it affect lymph nodes. If you're concerned with this being a side effect you can always go to a local pharmacy and ask the pharmacist and they should know or even call your doctor to ask them.

Cause lactation, Yes I quit it asap.

It's a heavy duty medication.. Is there no other safer options to try first or has that already been tried ?

My son was on it for picking at his skin. It didn't help. Seroquel help the most but my husband has a beef with seroquel. My son is suppose to be on abilify and that helped a lot.

His doctor treated his symptoms with BP meds and it really did help. I know seroquel mellows me out.

I got weight gain and lactation. It did work though, the time I was on it was probably the most stable I've ever been lol
