I just started Wellbutrin and soon as I took it I was feeling euphoric which lasted for a few days. Then I woke up feeling the most suicidal depressed I have ever felt. But now I feel fine. Has anyone had the same experience?

Thank you.

I was having the same problems. I'd been seeing a different doctor and when I went back in to my usual doctor he told me that Wellbutrin doesn't really work with bipolar (or perhaps the type of bipolar I have).

Most antidepressants carry a black box warning stating that they can cause suicidal ideation. However, a lot of researchers believe these suicidal thoughts come from the depression itself rather than the prescription drugs.

Moving on, when I first started Wellbutrin, I had the same euphoric feeling on the first day as well as a few vision issues and agitation. By the second day, I was back to my depressed self. Within a week, it started to kick in and I felt better. I transitioned off St. John's Wart onto bupropion (wellbutrin), so I was more or less without any antidepressant in my system for a few days.

If you're switching antidepressants, you can expect to feel depressed. You'll probably experience your depression plus withdrawl effects until the new antidepressant has kicked in.

Chances are, it will get better. Regardless, you should inform your doctor.

Yes! When I first started having bad bipolar symptoms, a regular dr. (i.e. not pdoc) said I had PMDD (bad PMS) and prescribed double my normal Celexa. That threw me into a manic episode that lasted quite a while, followed by a depression where I was actually looking up ways to kill myself. (Spare the details as it might trigger.) Even then, it was only suspected that I was bipolar, even though I was given Depakote. Now I am confirmed Bipolar I with mixed episodes.

I cycle daily (most days) even with the meds. When I came off the anti-depressant my pdoc had me do it gradually to avoid the side effects of coming off the med (Prozac) which I had taken for years.
I am on Lamictal and Abilify now and take kolopin for the nervous feelings and cogention for the side effects of the Abilify. (pdoc said the side effects I have from the Abilify is not something most people experience)
Hope everything gets better.
