i hope this is not a stupid question, but I was seeing the same psychiatrist for 3 years and i asked this question many times, but never got an answer,YES HE WAS NOT ONLY THE WORST PSYCHIATRIST BUT THE WORST HUMAN BEING I HAVE EVER MET!!!! (sorry, didn't mean to make it sound like i am yelling.) That is a different story i will tell another time in a different post. i am seeing a new psychiatrist on tuesday and last week i saw a counselor and she said i have bipolar rapid cycling along with many other things, but i was just wondering what is the difference between biplar 2 and rapid cycling?? or are they the same. I will ask my psychiatrist this question too. i just want to be a little informed before i talk to her.

I am BP1 with rapid cycling. from what i understand, rapid cycling means that your mood changes very quickly. You can experience many different moods in the same day or the same week depending on how rapid you cycle.

I hope that this helps.

First off about doctors Must of them suck!! But that kind of your answer . Most doctor see 100's of people a week and will spend 15 to 30 hour talking to each person .how can they get to know each person well enough .I've been though 6 to 10 different doctors and have gotten diffrent answers .The only person that really knows you is yourself .Read up on Bi-polar . You can find the info on this web site .

Technically, rapid cycling is going through at least 4 episodes in a year. Bipolar 2 is where you don't get full blown manic episodes, but you only have hypomanic episodes.

That's the really technical answer. I hope it helps!

I'm pretty sure that rapid cycling isn't a type of bipolar in itself, if not a term that describes your episodes ( being, four or more a year) you can be bipolar one or two, with or without rapid cycling episodes. Bipolar II, like already mentioned, just means you don't get full blown manic episodes ( so you probably wont be splurging 5,000 dollars on a purse you think is ugly, then flying out to a 5-star hotel in Paris, then spend another 20 grand you don't have at the mall, and then go sleep around with random people all at once, but you do get either really happy and elated, or really mad and irritated, and lots of energy and you act really silly. )

hope this helps!
