My ex girlfriend but still best friend has been on anti deps for 18 years, she attempted suicide, been commited, use to have an eating diorder. We dated for 6 years and lived to gether for 1 but the depression was to much. 2 years ago she was diagnosed as bipolar. Fro the 6 years ive know her, her general mood had been a constant mild depression with lower points sometimes and far fewer better times. 6 weeks ago her grandmother died ( I was apallberarer in her grandmothers funeral) and her father(last member of her family left moved 1000 miles away. She went to a therapist to help deal. Since this happened she basically has no time for me, or other friends/business partner, but spends eveywaking hour with friends she barley used to speak to). GOes out 5 times a week,(she would go 6 months without going to a bar) hads taken 2 one week trips(She use to never be able to travel with me due fear) obsessed with some guy. Gave one of her dogs away because it was interfereing in her life to much( I asked her about this and tells me dogs dont get sad, she used to cry if a squirrel was hit on the road) Wants to start a photography business because her old job is boring. Makes plans with me but doesnt follow through(We used to eat together 4 times week, go to movies, talk everyday) havent eaten together in 4 weeks, use to hate myspace, now blogs everyday with her need to spread love to all and has fallen madly in love with the worl, etcc
Is she in a mania stage right now? What will happen to her? How long will it last? Im sad because my best friend has disapeared Anty help or insights please Im sad and confusssed? Thanks |

Hi there,
I'm sorry to hear what you are dealing with, in my honest opinion, and only my opinion, it seems to me she is entering a manic episode, and if so, she needs to seek professional help, in order to help nip this before it gets worse. Is there any way you or another person close to her to bring her attention to her behavior? Is it possible her losing a loved one has been a trigger? Is she on meds and under treatment for Bipolar? If so, she needs to contact her pdoc and/or therapist. I wish I had more info/feedback to offer you, but it's hard when a person really doesn't know the person in the 3D, but I must say, I personally feel she is episodic and hope she gets immediate professional help before this escalates. I wish you and her lots of luck with whatever you and/or she decides. Please take care. DE

It does sould like mania, but it's hard to say, is she losing sleep? Does she talk like she thinks she might be the next messiah?
That's nice of you to care about her, but I can't say one way or the other whether or not you'll get back together with her. I personally wouldn't. The best thing you can do is tell her family what's happening and what you think is going on, so they can take intervening action if necessary.
