When you think of yourself "hearing voices" (if you do), are they going on as conversations inside your head (as in your inner voices that you use to think along with another point of view, say), or does it sound like actual people talking in the same room (or another room) but when you look, nobody's there?

For me, it's like they are in the same room with me or close by. Like someone I didn't know was standing nearby suddenly spoke up with something to say or trying to get my attention. In some circles, people would say these are "spirits" trying to contact you. I doubt it. I asked my pdoc today if I didn't take the meds that are anti-psychotic, what would happen? She said that they might get worse and if they did, they could start happening more often, or more voices, or sometimes the voices say mean things. I've read that in the psychosis board here- that they can say mean things. Mainly, its just a nuisence to be disturbed by someone that isn't even there. (Of course, a stranger that IS there would be worse....!)

I asked about the same in another thread. I used to hear voices and they were very real. It sounds like someone elses conversation, but just a fraction of it.. Like a man saying something here, and a a woman saying something else there.. Many different people talking, but not at the same time..
