My mom has been diagnosed with bipolar. I have taken quizzes on it and all of them say that I have a severe case of it. I don't see how. Is it just me or can I really be bipolar?

I need more info, before I can offer any thoughts.

When was your Mom diagnosed with bipolar? How old are you?

What lead you to taking these tests?

Are you having trouble with functioning at school or work or in your social life?

Are you distressed?

If you have health insurance, you should schedule an appointment with a psychiatrist. If not, or if you're not ready for a step that big, I'd recommend going to any bookstore and finding a guide to bipolar disorder ... if you feel like it's is speaking directly to you, then there's probably a good chance that you are bipolar.

And remember that either way you are not alone.

good advice from the replies. i can't add any more to what's already been said or asked. if u can give us your age that could help cause bipolar can mimic other conditions and vice versa.
we're here for you no matter which way it turns out. keep us posted, k?

I agree with all other posters. Did you take the test to see if it was truly genetically inherited. I've known I was bipolar&now schizo-affective disordered for 21 years. It's not the end of the world, it just makes things more difficult sometimes&believe it or not I think, at least me, those of us that are bipolar are stronger than those who are "normal" because we go through a lot of uncertainty&sickness&pull through time after time. And there are good times once you're getting regular treatment w/t or meds. Some say that if you're diagnosed that you will go through the 7 stages of grieving that Dr Elizabeth Kubler Ross talks about in her book "On Death&Dying"-I know that's not the most hopeful title, but the info is good&often correct.

mel123: Sorry to hear that you are experiencing something so scary. Finding out that you might have a chronic illness is overwhelming for everyone. But don't settle for quizzes. You owe it to yourself to get a professional opinion. Remember that the diagnosis isn't the end of the story. There are so many treatments out there for bipolar disorder, and more are coming out every year.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
