Could someone tell me more about this therapy. Does it make people better without meds? Hard for me to bellieve that BPDs don't need meds. I'm both bipolar with BPD traits and i'm on meds. Could use some good therapy though. I feel better with meds but almost emotionless. Anyone out there willing to explain these therapys.

We just wrapped up the DBT chat, but you can read about it. There's a thread in psychotherapy, which I try to keep updated. The chat is every week. It doesn't take the place of therapy, but might give you an idea some of what you could get out of DBT therapy.

If you are bipolar, DBT won't change that, and you would probably need to continue your meds, but DBT can still help you to manage your emotions and be in charge of your choices and decision-making. With, or without, meds.

DBT was created in order to help people with BPD and has proven to be very effective with that.

it may also help your bipolar, but current understanding is that bipolar is primarily a chemical thingy, so you will probably need to continue to take meds. however, maybe if you are able to manage your symptoms better, you could decrease them somewhat and that might help you stop feeling so flat.

CBT has always worked a treat for me........DBT didn't exist when I went through the bulk of my Borderline issues.......I was fortunate to have a T who stayed with me for 7 years through that scary time.

CBT works for me with bipolar.......and everyones right.......kind of got to be on the meds as well........or thats my experience.

Good luck......
