I have been told by my doctors that sleep is very necessary for individuals living with bipolar disorder. I notice my moods change if I don't get enough sleep...increased sadness.

Yes, if I sleep less than 8 hours due to increase activity but more irritability and mood fluctuated too. I was told that it is an essential to sleep 8 hours consistent everyday which helps the mood more manageable. Practise and self-discipline with sleep routine is important for bipolar disorder. I notice it's working but as long as you keep yourself in discipline with your sleeping pattern (not easy to keep up with routine!)

Yes, I had a pdoc tell me that I needed a minimum of 8 hours of sleep, AT NIGHT, if I expected to stay healthy. It definitely helps!

I have noticed and have read that even missing one nights sleep or even just getting a few hours sleep one night can trigger a manic episode.
Also, no sleep triggers mania which triggers not sleeping, which triggers mania!!!!! |

No one has ever said anything about this to me. I have mentioned that I don't get much sleep. Just goes to show that you learn more here than in the doctors office.
